Code Reader Not Working?
Code Reader Not Working?
Went to Auto Zone after work today. Car had HORRIBLE cold start up after work, rpms were everywhere, blowing black smoke. Smoothed out after a few seconds, then I drove home.
Vacuum was acting a little funny while at a red light, jumping between 15-18psi, car shut off. Started up drove home and shut it off.
Still wondering what was up, I started it back up and drove towards town. Thats when the CEL came on.
Took it to AutoZone and their OBD-II scanner wouldn't even turn on when plugged in. Guy tried it on the Ford Focus next to me, and it powered right up!
Funny thing is, they read a code for me before at the same shop. Why wouldn't it work now?
Is there a particular code reader I need? Please let me know.
THANKS!
-Travis

There is a TSB on this issue. I have trouble with cold starts as well. This is an issue with the PCM. A reflash should take care of the problem.
Go to: http://calid.gm.com
Enter in your VIN for PCM calibration info.

Key was turned forward to ON position, car wasn't started.
I'm wondering why it wouldn't power on, especially since they used it on my SS before?
Do I need a CAN OBDII scanner, or is there DEF something wrong with my scanner port?
Thanks guys.

Thats pretty sweet. So it shows you what your car currently has with the green dot? Just got mine in for the cold start thing yesterday, we'll see if it works shortly. Thanks for the great link, very useful.

Some people have trouble with it, what browser are you using?

yup I had that problem just allow popups from that site
Car did it again this morning, it was REALLY cold.
Car would start then get jumpy idle, sound like **** then shut off. Did it to me 3 times, until it would finally start and run.
After work today, started up fine. Only problem is CEL, and a hiccup @ WOT in any gear.
This is killing me, been thinking about it all day. Wondering what suddenly happened? It was running incredible.
Fujita was on for 4days ran perfect. Then Monday night I took the CAI apart and repositioned it. Tues. morning drove literally 3mins. to work, ran fine. It was after work(raining all day, super cold) that I started it up and it sounded like **** and wanted to shut off. CEL followed minutes later.
Tried to get code read, but OBD-II scanner at AutoZone wouldn't power up when plugged in. Worked on the Focus next to me, but not mine. It worked last time, any idea why it wouldn't power up this time? Do you need to have the engine running on this car?

Also according to that CALIBRATION TABLE after giving my VIN number... I have the most up to date versions of everything, according to the green dot.
If I already have the Cold Start fix, what the hell could it be?

I would have tried it with the car running.
All you need is an OBDII scanner, there is no need for CAN for just getting the DTCs.
Ok listen to this.
Checked Fuses, lighter fuse was blown. Took over to same AutoZone. This time the OBD-II scanner would say Linking Please Wait, but NEVER connect.
So now its getting power but the scanner won't link up!?!
Let me know if you got any suggestions for this one, Thanks for all the help!

Check all other fuses(if you didn't already). Especially module fuses, PCM,ECM, etc. You need to establish communications first and retreive codes. Also check for anything that may have become disconnected. By the way it is running your PCM has no control over the engine.
