? On cold air intake

So, I just bought a 05 cobalt SS and I was looking on getting a cold air intake for it. So I was asking around on what brand I should buy. I was thinking about getting a injen but then my buddy that works at autozone told me that name brands honestly don't matter, and that I should just get a specture or whatever their brand is. Is that true or should I pay the extra bucks for a good well known name brand????

I did the airbox mod with a specture filter and I'm pleased with the results. Cost me 30$ and about and hour of my time. Check out the how to section for a good walk through with pictures on the airbox mod.

the filter isn't what's holding back the stock intake. its the bends and creases that hold back air flow.

Yes. It is the filter.

i'm not saying the airbox"mod" isn't going to do anything. but for the price of an aftermarket intake. don't half ass something.

but those bends and kinks are keeping you from seeing real improvements. you'll get maybe 1-2hp from cutting up the airbox. which already has a large opening to let air in.

that varying diameter, bottle necked and kinked pipe.

vs a 3" all the way through, easy radiused bends. you're better off selling the stock intake and using that money to pay for a real one than you are trying to cut it up and make an intake out of it.

Mark, the airbox mod is far from half assing it.

Buying shinny pipes with filters is a waste of money for this car. I tested many different intakes, XTC, AEM, Injen, & Rebel. None of them showed any huge improvements or changes over the airbox mod other than a louder whine.

I compared my injen intake to my airbox mod (back to back), and flowed around 2 lbs/min more air with my stock intake and modified box.

Those kinks arent really kinks. They are the same diameter as the rest of the intake, but made oblong for fitment. They flow the same amount of air.

People see this stuff and automatically think it is a restriction w/o understanding fluid flow.

It's not a war.

I'm just stating what I've learned though testing, & money wasted, lol.

I'm also not saying aftermarket intakes are garbage, but I would invest the money into more worth while mods, ie. the exhaust side.

Bigger and better gains are seen there.

Jeff did the whole intake comparison thing. Airbox mod works best. I might ditch this RAW and go back to mine since I already have a meth tap and everything
