Confused Meth...

Ok. I have been reading and I want to make sure that I have my ducks in a row. The main purpose for methanol injection is to keep the engine cooler. So here goes my question.

When you spray METH, are your IAT2's supposed to drop? Or are they just not supposed to rise as much or what?

I have the aem methanol injection kit, and im using -20f windshield wiper fluid. I have no leaks, the system is installed correctly, however I am not seeing a gain when using the meth.

I have an on and off toggle switch, and its set to start at 5psi boost and I believe full is 10lbs.

With all of this being said, my main question is what is supposed to happen to your iat2's when meth is being sprayed, into the cold air intake.

to really see a gain you need a tune, to change your timing. right now it's just acting as a cooling mod.

I realize that. What I am asking is what am I supposed to see untuned. When I hit boost should my iat2's drop, or what. I just don't know what I should be looking for while I am not tuned.

The point of meth is to be able to run higher advanced timing and not having any kr - knock retard, correct? It also highers your octane which also results in not having any knock.

But, are my actual temps, as in my iat2s supposed to drop when its sprayed?

i don't really know enough about meth to give you answers and be confident i'm not going to lead you down the wrong road.

your iat2's should drop, as far as i know, also the meth is kind of acting as an octane booster, so yeah your timing can be advanced.

pm raven ss, lamboW9 or one of the other big dogs.

Thanks, I am glad that you don't give knowledge without knowing what you are talking about. You can give me "opinions" or your "thoughts" but don't give me straight up answers, I like that and appreciate that.

The thing is. When you hit boost, the supercharger produces more heat. Plain and simple the IAT2's will rise, with or without meth. Meth only gets sprayed when you are in boost, so no matter what they are going to rise.

That is my thinking, am I wrong?

When I am cruising, my iat2s are VERY close to my iat1s now. We are talking like a 10-15 degree difference.

However, when I come to a stop, my iat2s raise, and raise fast. This is normal correct?

they rise because there's very little air moving in comparison, and the meth isn't spraying, plus all the heat you just generated by moving is now showing itself.

like i said, just wait till ne of those guys jump in, or PM them, i don't want to get flamed for giving wrong info.

Yea, what you said above was kind of wrong, but I won't flame you. There is actually more air moving in, especially with spraying. When I spray it basically in theory condenses the air and packs "more" air into the intake which then gets forced into the supercharger. Also, while you are moving, or "cruising" your IAT2's will be lower then while in WOT or at idle.

Thats the solid information that I know thusfar. I just don't know if my IAT2's are supposed to drop when going WOT with METH, or if they are supposed to just stay lower then if I was not spraying.

I am using windshield wiper fluid which isn't a pure 50/50 mix. But you can get meth at places that sell race gas generally, and you put it into the 1 or 5 gallon container that holds it =D.

I am going to try a pure 50/50 methanol mix instead of -20f windshield wiper fluid and see if it "helps" any more.

your iat's will be lower than when you aren't spraying meth, but they will still rise to a certain point.

What are your iat's starting at and what do they end at when you finish a 3rd gear pull?

I will let you know tonight. When i get home. The thing is i think my iat2's are staying the same with or without the meth. I will do 1 pull in 3rd gear up to 7k rpms, drive around until my temps drop, and then i will do another 3rd gear pull up to 7k rpms with meth on and see what the iats are.
