Safe to drive?
Safe to drive?
Well today I was driving and all of a sudden I hear a mess of noise coming from under the hood.I pulled over and looked and some how my belt broke in half (long ways). Sorta hard to describe it the whole bottom of the belt is still there and just half the ribs came off.I have no idea what happened but I was able to drive home being very easy on it.It also shredded the hood liner above my belts I called and they said it all could be replaced under warrenty (stage 2 belt btw) I now have to wait until Monday to bring it in.Is it safe to drive to town and whatnot in it if I'm very easy on it..Shifting around ~2500rpm?
i would recommend against driving it until then. you'll risk doing damage to the car if you drive it with the belt like that. now it shouldn't kill the motor but if it breaks it will more kill your battery really quick because its hooked up to the alternator. so i say no don't drive it.
I was refering to safe to drive with it not breaking.I know what happens when it breaks. A little more than half is still left.
Explain.... Injectors or the tune wouldn't affect it and the hub is on straight and tight and the pulley lines up...

someone else could probably explain it better but my buddys truck had the same thing happen after an underdrive pully install. my guess is the belt was not tight enogh. i could be completely wrong BTW
They might have misaligned the belt when they installed it.
And I would not drive it that way. High chance that your belt will go out and damage your car. If you do drive it, don't turn the AC on no matter what. I don't care if it's 110* outside.

drive it to the dealership. the absolute worst thing that could happen is the car stalls on the side of the road from a dead batt. or s/c not turning. it's only 5 miles anyways just find a friend with a truck and tow rope to pull it the rest of the way
no the dealer should tow it for free for warranty work. If you ruin it even more by pushing it, they have every right to back out on covering it. I know, we own a shop. Been there, had all this crap happen. We had to pay for a 60's Impala to be towed from Tennessee b/c the governor broke off of the trans. Oops! everyone makes a mistake.
So get a free tow, take advantage of it, dont drive the damn car. JEEZUS...

Tried it ..Told her I couldn't make it Monday and she asked If I could get someone else to drive it..I told her it really isn't drivable. She asked me how did I plan on getting ti to the dealer then?
Man up and tell them u need them to get a tow truck to your house and that you want it for free since it is under warranty and that it is in no way your fault for this happening... ****** dealerships- they are all scumbags (I know, I used to work for one...)
