Cons of Meth/Water Injection

I am just looking for more info about the cons of methanol injection. I know of the pros, lower temps and u can tune for more timing, but im just wondering if there are any negative effects of using this? And before anyone asks, i did search and found the pros and cons of methanol injection, but the thread is very old and i was thinkn we kno more about what the effects of using this is now better than we did then. So any help would be appreciated.

not really, cost is not much besdies filling it up and depending on what mix you like washer fluid works.

yea, and the theory about the wearing down of the coating on the supercharger rotors has been disproven hasn't it? From what i understand it actually cleans the inside.

im lookn into the alcohol injection methanol kit, so it comes with a pretty big tank.

Only con I've found with methanol injection is if the checkvalve fails (extremely rare) and you dump a ton of it on the dyno at WOT it'll burn your eyes if it's and enclosed area. Other than that I've only seen positive results from my kit.

If you tune aggressively for it and you run out or the pump fails you can cause detonation and damage the engine. If you are just using for cooling the intake charge and not tuning for the extra octane then this wont happen.

I have a stage 2 snow performance kit, with a stage 3 pump and controller on my Eclipse and I love it. The only con I have found so far is the obvious (if the pump fails or you run out). The reservoir for holding the methanol is small, so really the only problem is you need to keep your eye on the reservoir, or buy a 1.5 gallon trunkmount one. Plus, pure methanol is cheaper than gas.

So is the pump failing a very rare occurence?
How long should a 1.5 gallon tank last on average?

Pump failure or nozzle clogging is rare. More likely someone would forget to fill the tank.

when using just water for cooling, I dont use hardly any when street driving. I'm using the Perrin Performance kit and it uses injector duty cycle to trigger. it is set to 25% duty cycle.

When I'm on the track I use about 1.5 quarts of water every 20 minute session.

if i run it i'm only going to use the cooling properties of it, i dont plan on advancing timing at all.

has or does anyone just run it without a tune? just set it low, and use a small nozzle?

No problems from me with it... I've had it all ***** out tuned with it... and in my winter toon it's there don't really get into it....

but works great cooling properties are nice and sprayint 105 octane alcohol is an added bonus!

DOOOOOOOEEEEEEIIIIIIITTTTT!

well i've always been nervous at shooting liquid into my engine. but i guess at low quantity's i think it would be ok. and i would not have to worry about letting it go empty.

Then just go water. You wont gain anything from the methanol without tune. I see a lot a lot of heat soak on the track so the car slows lap after lap. with the water only injection, I dont see that heat soak and the car stays quick.

If your engine was getting knock before and you add meth injection you might see alittle gain.

1.5 gallon tank should last you 2-3 fillups just depends on how you drive your car.
The 3 main alcohol injection company's Snowperformance, Coolingmist and DevilsOwn, all switched over to a new pump about 1.5 years ago. With this new pump the failure rate has dramatically reduced. The old ones could only accept 50/50 meth and people woiuld run more than that here and there. The newer pumps seals can handle 100% meth.

Biggest conn is just having to fill the tank up. Keep it full and you have no problems.

This post intrests me alot. Im wondering. Is it safe to run a gmpp stage 2 with only an air box mod and the meth kit and no tune ? Im really interested to get one. But im not to up for HAVING to tune my car just to run it. SO , if i were to buy one. I get that it would lower my temps and allow the car to reduce knock. Giving alittle more power and more safely? Is that correct? And , does running meth help with having a stage 2 and not having a dual pass and or a ca heat exchanger ?? Maybe doing the same thing. Keeping the super charger cooler avoiding heat soak? I just dont wanna buy a meth kit, run it for a few yrs and then have the car blow up due to prolonged use !!?? And , last but not least. Can you run straight water, straight meth and or a 50/50 mix of water and weth ( washer fluid ?? ) ??? Thanks for any answers you guys can give me !!
