coolant in my oil
coolant in my oil
I went to clean out my oil catch can and I noticed the oil in it was dirty brown and smelled of oil and coolant. What does this mean and how do I fix it? I am no not blowing white smoke out of my exhaust and the motor feels strong like no lack of power.
I had a test done at a local shop called a combustion leak test which tests for exhaust gases in you're coolant which might help to determine a blown head gasket.
yup, hungryhip has been the latest. When i was doing my build the cometic and oem looked exactly identical. I haven't had any issues, but whos to say it wont randomly blow out one day
I thought hungryhip cracked a Sleeve? If a sleeve went, I am sure a headgasket would also... You are talking some serious high HP there.
Either a very small leak, starting to go; or maybe moisture somehow just got in your tank and it is not the gasket... Keep an eye on it, time will tell.
Yea I kno but I'm scared cuz I can't afford new pistons etc. I'm bringin it by my friends shop 2nite. I told him over the fone what was going on he said it sounds more like an intake gasket then a head gasket
yeah dude, stop driving it... youre liable to spin a bearing. if that happens youre motor is shot.
my last car was a grand am 3.4 v6 and did the same thing... Exhaust never smelled funny and ran like a champ. we replaced the upper and lower intake gaskets. 2 months later it spun a bearing out due to coolant in the oil breaking down movable parts.

I jus changed the oil this morn so I'm not as worried about blowin my motor
So what was the problem with your grand am? Was it the head gasket or the intake gaskets? Its sounds like honesly you got coolant in the oil and then changed the gaskets but did you change the oil again after doing the gaskets?

ugh.... its not like i didnt change my oil. you have to change the oil when you do that job. seafoamed the oil and flushed as well.
EDIT: it was the intake gaskets upper and lower, 3400 and 3800 series motors are known to do this. and yes coolant got on the bearings... we fixed and flushed the problem, but damage was done

the bearing that got coolant in it 2 month b4 when i did have the problem was enough to break it down.... it just took 2 months to do it and theres no way of being sure that wont happen unless you replace them and go get your block and head washed.
