Coolant temps
Coolant temps
Is it okay for my coolant temps to go from 180 to 205 back to 180 ?
This happened 20minutes into driving. Just curious.
Becouse I just got the ottp h/e
Oh, and its 50 degrees outside.

Depends on the circumstances, but yeah... that's pretty much okay.
You probably came to a stop at some point... which is where the temps will rise since there is no air hitting the Radiator. And then you either started rolling again or your fan kicked on... lowering your temps.
Ain't no thang.

ottp h/e is for IAT2's the coolant display on your dashboard is your engine coolant which is completely separate.
O and btw yes that is perfectly normal for engine coolant.

IAT1 is not the coolant temp thats on your dash. the coolant temp thats on your dash is your engine temp. IAT1 is intake air temperature 1 or the temp of the air entering your intake before the supercharger. usually IAT1 is a couple degrees warmer than the outside air temp.
IAT = Intake Air Temperature.
IAT1 Temp Reading isn't displayed on the DIC either... and the reading comes from the MAF. IAT2 comes from the MAP (attached to the Intake manifold... left side, next to the Coolant Hose).
The Coolant Reading that you are getting a readout from comes from the Coolant Sensor which is located on the head, right above the Front Coolant hose, IIRC.
But he is correct in saying that your Intercooler Coolant System and your Block Coolant system are 2 separate systems. To read a change in your IAT2's, you'll need an interceptor, or some other Logger which is capable of reading that data.

On a side note, so this sensor is keeping my motor stuck at a constant 132* - 138* right? Is that really such a bad thing?? I know ppl say if the engine isnt at "optimal" that it can throw of AFRs etc etc. My AFRs are still good, my Fuel Trims are still in check, gas mileage okay.
I run a 2.5 so maybe this can be a blessing in disguise. For some reason I think engine coolant temps play a part in you IATs, though technically I know Intake Air temps depends on Intake Air. Idk, jus thinking....low engine temps gotta help in the summer, plus the car seems to love it, tough call b/c its cold outside.
Are you sure? I gotta bad Coolant temp sensor or whatever(Keeping my coolant temps below 140*). I gotta replace it, just wanted to know where to look for sure. Someone said it was behind the block at the drivers side in the water pump assembly or something.

Replacing it would be smart. 2.5 or not.
Gotcha, thermostat is behind the block, coolant temp sensor is right there up front. Its the thermostat that probably needs to be replaced, not the coolant sensor huh?? Hope the install isnt too bad.
