Coolant temps phenolic spacer

Given that the intake manifold acts as somewhat of a heat sink for the cylinder head, I'm wondering how much additional heat the head sees from adding a phenolic spacer. I'm sure the cooling system would take care of the temps under normal driving. Perhaps it might be a good idea to get an upgraded radiator in combination with this mod on an otherwise stock vehicle if you're going to take it to a road course. Any thoughts?

I honestly think there would be no issue. 2.2 and 2.4 guys have plastic intake manifolds so i would think they would act the same.

My coolant temps are actually higher since ive been SCed

lots of good info in here, dont quote me but i think it was around 5-10 degrees which is awesome, also it stays a lot cooler when say ur in the staging lanes sitting in traffic etc. quicker recovery after pulls. good upgrade that i cant wait to get

he's stock SC, not 2.2/2.4. on an NA cobalt, intake temps aren't nearly as high because air isn't being forced into the engine, the engine is sucking in it's own air without any outside help... spacer would lower IAT's, not coolant temps. and if they did, wouldn't be much. if you want lower coolant temps, get a dual pass endplate

You guys are missing his question. Hes wondering how hotter the head gets from adding the spacer. Not how much heat it takes away.

i cant really see it being an issue. maybe in 110 degree weather and going around a road coarse you would see a difference.

the heat is created inside the blower not from forcing the air but from compressing it inside the housing

the head may see a couple of degrees more but nothing even close to a danger level a bigger radiator isent needed either the stocker is more then sufficant

It fits. Just need to notch the rad support where the pulley hits.

Mine runs the same temperature as it did when I was NA, just seems to warm up a little faster after start up.
