Arrow The Cooling Mod Build...

Well Everyone... Here are my experiences doing HatTrickStu's cooling mod...

Be careful with the bleeder bolt, it will tighten as much as you can turn it and will break... mine did and i have a replacement (non hollow) bolt in there right now... anyone have an extra they can send me??

I lost the pics of the tank pre-insertion so you can see how i built it... but basically my tank is a square shape, not the angular one like in the how-to... So i have one Nipple off of the side, and one on the bottom, towards the front of the car...

The nipple on the new tank was farther back, and it would have put ALOT of stress on the bonding / hoses... so i sealed it up with some expoxy, and QuikSteel Plastic (the best, ever...)

Thats a pic of where i mounted it... The white stuff is the QuikSteel plastic. The sealant i used didnt work too well, just some plastic to metal epoxy, but it just didnt bond well. This sets in like 10 min, and if you put soapy water on your hands, it sticks more to what you want to bond than your hands (a little trick i figured out).

I then ran then pump line basically through the back of the headlight (if you adjust the angles youll get the cinks out)

The line was then ran down behind the fans and into the pump.

The HARDEST part of this entire project was getting the hoses off of the h/e... PAIN IN SAID *********!!! The way i got it off was to have one hand prying open the clamp, and using the other hand to turn the tubing untill it got loose... I did this from under the car, passenger side, legs facing out and away toward driver side (just one crappy jack )

I ran the other line Almost just upward along up and around the radiator hose. The red is roughly where the new tubing resides...

You can also see the tube near the dipstick in the front of the car...

So a few zip ties later.... we come to the final product!!!

Hope you guys enjoy my experience.... On a scale of 1-10 of how hard it was to to do i would say this was a 4.... And this is such an Awesome mod!!!!

is this mod possible with the dual pass option b setup? If I could find a place to mount the tank, would this mod be possible?

Im almost pretty sure it is... but it will be hard to mount the tank... To be honest, this setup is just like pretty much having an option b tank... My guess if you couldnt find a place to mount the tank, you could just use this one.

What about a trunk located mounted that had a ton of coolant, and I just got longer hoses and figured a way to route it. Say maybe a 5 gallon tank in the trunk?

Zach i was about to make a post about that!, im just wondering if doing that would put extra stress on the pump, or else tonight im going to make a huge coolant tank in my trunk.

wow, wait till you guys see how I did mine. I did it like 100% different than every setup I've seen yet. I used all junkyard parts and routed my hoses completely different.

It's already been proven that using a GINORMOUS trunk mount tank in the manner that you are thinking doesn't really do anything extra. Just get yourself a 2-4qt reservoir and mount it where everyone else is over there near all the belts and pulleys on the motor and run the hoses so that the coolant flows through the reservoir. On track days or whatever kind of racing you do, pack out the reservoir with ice before each run.

I will post pics tommorow I swear. Didn't finish covering my lines tonight because I spent about an hour redoing the fender mount. I used an actual pressurized coolant reservoir from some weir german car, then I routed the hoses OVER the top with heat reflectant covering. I know my setup will probably run a few degrees hotter since its close to the supercharger, but I think My setup gets better flow out of the pump due to fewer bends.

I love this mod. It was 84 degrees out today and for ***** and giggles I pulled the cap on the bottle and the fluid wasn't even bath water temp. Hats off to the inventor! I will say that I got no leaks from minute one. rtv, paper gaskets and a plastic 1/2"npt plastic nuts from the plumbing department to tighten the hose fittings. It squeezes the plastic tightly.

this mod is effectively a an otp B only its spliced inline in the system opposed to just "T"ed in...its a bit better than an opt B and will probably hold more coolant than opt B

My collant tank will be in tommorrow.............got the idea off of another redline owners car. Its a 03 Cobra I/C Reservoir tank, has 3/4 inlets and outlets already molded in. I will post pictures this weekend, and I have an interceptor guage so I will be able to post before and after numbers also...........paid a whopping 20 bucks for it shipped.

It looks like this

Its not as big as the tanks you guys are putting on, I dont think, but it adds more coolant, will find out exactly how much this weekend also...............

and it gets that damn filter neck the heck out of the way..............

Yes I cut my on paper gaskets. I used red rtv because it said it was good for cooling systems.
picture this order:
heater hose fitting>large steel washer>paper gasket> rtv>bottle>rtv>paper gasket>plastic nut.

Im going to switch tanks today... Make it a little bit more sturdy...

Question about the tank... Do i have the water levels right according to where the nipples are? Should one be higher or what? Also ive seen the tank with a hole drilled on the top... should i just keep it intact instead?

runriots is really small and the cobra tanks are notorious for cracking. all I can say is good luck. But the cobra guys all upgrade to bigger tanks and call them a "ice box" since you can pack it full of ice at the track.

shorstack, you need a hole in the top just to let air escape. Think of it as a breather hole. Just drill a TINY hole in the cap. Like a 1/16th of an inch hole.

NOTE TO THE WISE: also, just to let people know, if you run a small 1/4" hose from your new coolant tank to the bleeder valve(obviously you'll have to tap in a nipple here) on top of your stock h/e (if you are still using your stock h/e.) then you will EFFECTIVELY constantly bleed the system of air which will in turn create better cooling. Just Food For Thought.

For some reason, i'm not really getting what your trying to say ? Maybe im just stupid today ?! If i make my own option be i have to find a way to bleed the system ? Any how, I picked up another coolant tank from a freind of mine that is off of an 06 ss/sc that was junked. Its just the stock resivoir. Do you guys think it'll be okay to use ? The bottom outlet is 3/4 but the top one is only like 1/4 ? So should i drill that out to a 3/4 as well ? Anyone see any problems with using this tank to make my own option b install with ? Thanks .... Don't mean to thread jack !!

no, that one is perfect. It should have 3 nipples. You use the 2 bigger nipples to run the coolant in and out with the system. Then you run the smallest nipple with a hose over to the top of your stock h/e. You need to buy a nipple that screws in there in place of the bolt. Then attach that small hose to the nipple. What that does is bleed the air from the highest point in the system. Get it?

LOL. No, the small line that comes from the top of the H/E should go into your reservoir from the bottom. NOT THE TOP. The whole point is to get coolant back into the h/e and the air out. If you hook it too the top of your reservoir, then you are just letting air in. Get it? You gotta let liquid in and air out.

I got her now ! So do you think i should drill that 1/4 inlet on the top of the tank up to 3/4 of an inch to match the line at the bottom ?? Or will the 1/4 that it is be fine ? I was kinda thinking that would slow down the inlet of anti-freeze ? Im just not sure oth the hooking up of the outlet ( bottom of the tank ) and the inlet ( top of the tank ) ?? Should i drill that larger to 3/4 ? Thanks guys !!
