Cooling Mods....hmm

is it a must to get cooling mods like dual bypass or a heat exchanger if you are running a 2.6" pulley??? or can you program your boost cut off at 17psi and be fine?? anyone with a set up without cooling mods with the 2.6??

Yes, cooling mods ARE a must. You can only limit boost in 1st gear anyway. (I think)

Do cooling mods, THEN the smaller pulley.

nope limiting the boost will do nothing the supercharger is still spinning fast just not making the power it should. I would do no less then 2 heat exchangers, and the dual pass with opition b for plumbing

manual boost controller, as opposed to an electronic one, like most turbo cars use

Could you go without the upgraded heat exchanger and dual pass and just go with meth/water? I have a meth/water on order and I want to upgrade to a 2.6" myself. I was going to purchase a GMPP dual pass, but I was curious if I even needed it.

I've been running mine for about two weeks, but babying the car, so far no problems, minus a back fire here n there from being too rich from the box tune. " I do plan on re-tuning, and getting my cooling mods soon" to get the full effect from the 2.6

are you kidding me? Yes you need cooling mods, why would you go the cheap way out and only get water/meth? Go with a dual pass and a cobra he. I mean hell there is someone on the boards that make the dual passes and the cobra HE are cheap if you can find one. Which is not hard to do. If your going to mod your car please do it right!

I think it's important to ask these questions. I wouldn't go without them completely, but I was wondering, because if I could go water/meth kit first, and then upgrade to dual pass, and heat exchanger in a month or so, then I would be able to do my upgrades more efficiently. But if it's just not a good idea, then I will just wait until I can do it all at once.

Well its just that people mod there cars before thinking about the cooling issue and wonder why they blow up!

I for one am guilty of not doing the cooling mods right away but I modded my car in the winter it was cold and the cars temps where awesome.

I also tuned my car to run a 11.2-11.4AFR which cools my engine and runs awesome.....but my cooling mods are coming in very very soon.

I scan my car everyday and my IAT2 temps never went up more then 120degree at full boost of 19psi. I want to bring them down to less then 100 thats my goal.

Dammm! talk about flamage! i agree with you denny... it appears that some ppl on cobaltss.net were born with automotive modification experience... as if no1 here was ever noob at one point. they need to chill the fff out.

but yeah if your going that small ull need some cooling mods, and like denny mentioned, ull need to monitor ur afr.

see wasnt that simple enough??

I'm not a complete noob, I've been doing this for about 6 years now, but I don't think that you can know everything no matter how much you mod out your previous vehicles. I figured if I could add in meth/water now and use that to get me by for another month, then I could get the modifications done sooner... if not, then I would wait. My original plan was to wait, but with the question raised, I figured I would take advantage and throw mine out there as well.

I think something else of interest has been brought up... I live in Alaska... it won't be above 60 for another month or so.... so with meth/water I wonder if I'd be fine anyway... looks like I shouldn't take the chance and I should just wait the 3 more weeks so that I can get the dual pass and the heat exchanger along with it.
