Couple Qs about Ported Head

Alright here we go.

My uncle has been porting mustang heads since i can remember and he said he'll port my head for free(he knows what hes doing trust me) i have seen the dyno sheets to prove gains but i was wonder ing if i would need a tune to run it?

your uncle sounds like a valuable ally. Problem is , what to do and what shape? You need something to copy, and who will give you that ? Some of the pictures shown on this site of ported heads are HORRIBLE.

Best bet, if you are doing it "blind" is to open up the exhaust port only, out to the template of the gasket. It is possible to screw it up and remove too much material, but the exhaust is the cork in the LSJ. Then yes you gotta tune for best results. Just sayin'

As much flow as the ported head will be pushing out. Your definately going to need a retune!

Its not gonna be like a 4 angle valve job or anything just a really mild port. Yeah he's lining it up with the gasket. I just want to know if im gonna run lean with it? i want to get a 2.8 and 60s and meth before i get a tune so i dont want to get 2 tunes one just for a ported head. So if its not a big deal and ill see verry little hp gains i want to do it but i dont watn to run lean.

like i said, it all depends how much he ports. "mild" is a relative word.

i was considering calling his car slow before i mentioned perspective..but i didnt know if it was built or what...course now that its totalled i wish i had...lol
thats odd tho.. a base model cobalt is still faster than an RSX as long as its not an RSX-S
