Custom 3 inch exhaust?

Should I get a custom made 3 inch exhaust or get the Altered Atmosphere 3" exhaust? If custom made, what muffler would you guys choose? I need some ideas. My dad is almost forcing me to go the custom route to save some money but I just don't know what muffler i'd pick with the 3 inch piping. Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

I went with the AAP. Im real happy about my decision. it was really hard to find a muffler, I went this route since they offered a titanium tip for 30 dlls extra. I payed 660 for it andi cant wait to get it. Should be getting made this week. Ill tell you all about it when i receive it.

Do you think I could get the same gains with a custom 3 inch as the altered atmosphere exhaust did which was 10whp?

You can get a custom 3" exhaust made at monro for like 250 dollars with the muffler.

All depends on what you want. Just stay away from flowmaster's. They flow like ****. I like dynomax muffler's.

The magnaflow exhaust for the SS/SC that is 2.5 inches, would that muffler fit on 3 inch piping?

Does the muffler itself has to have a 3" inlet to accomodate 3 inch piping?

NOOOOO!!!! NO FART CANS!!!!!

if the custom one is crush bent, you wont technically get the same performance, but the difference is only a hp or two. Nothing major

Exactly. Why pay 200 dollars+ for mandrel when you'll only pick up 1 or 2 horsepower.

What's the difference between mandrel bent and crush bent? Would they sound different if you used the same muffler?

The pipe diameter at the bends. Mandrel bent pipes have maintain the same diameter at the bends, crush bent have smaller diameters at the bends.

Crush bent also have folds in the metal at the bends, mandrels are smooth.

Crush bent is not a true 3 inch. It is like putting a kink in a hose it will not flow the same. Mandrel bent is true 3 inch but it is more expensive it requiers more labor.
It would sound the same. but the power will not be the same

WTF!!!! I wish magnaflow made a 3 inch. If i were to get it mandrel bent, it would be around the price of the Altered Atmosphere which is around 600 maybe even more? Damn. I'm going to get a quote hopefully soon on both a 3 inch crush and mandrel. If the mandrel is around 600 to 700 most than I think i'll go with that and a magnaflow muffler. If not, f*ck this shyt, open headers b*tches.

I wish. I don't want to void the warranty before I get the stage upgrade. If they see a header while installing my upgrade....there goes my warranty. An exhaust shouldn't void the warranty though...SHOUDLNT. And I want it now! This is freakin bs that only one company makes a 3 inch for my car, and it has to be a fart can.

Its not that hard to find a place that can do mandrel 3'in exhaust. A friend went to a exhaust shop and got 3" catback for less than $250. You just have to look around and see who can do it for you. I think that buying expensive exhausts are a waste, when you can get the same thing for much less.

Please explain to me your logic of why you need mandrel? Is it because you can tell everyone you have it just to be cool?

Be realistic. You don't need it. Crush bent is FINE.

^^^ Agreed. Mandrel is good to have, but at the low power levels and exhaust flow from the Cobalt I dont see mandrel giving you much more than 3-4hp at the very most over a crush. Save the money, get a crush bent exhaust, and go with any muffler with a 3" inlet that will fit. Theyre not THAT hard to find man
