Custom Exhaust
Custom Exhaust
If i get i custom exhaust done at a local shop will i still recieve power gains? Also will 2.5 inch piping be alright with stage 2 and intake or would that be overkill?
Make sure to have the pipes mandrel bent and not crush bent.
those mandrel bending machines are expensive!!!!

there are 3 types of bends, crush bent, compression bent and mandrel.
crush bent is what it sounds like, the pipe is actualy crushed as its bent, reducing the diameter greatly and also putting ribs in the pipe that cause turbulance. this is the worst type
compression bent also reduces the diameter of the pipe, however its not as drastic as crush bent, and there are no ribs, its a smooth bend. this is what most new vehicles come with from the factory. it'll be good if you are unable to find someone that can do mandrel bends.
mandrel bends are made on a special machine and the pipe is not crushed at all, its actualy stretched. the tubing will maintain the same diameter through the entire bend. obviously, this is the best style for many applications, not just exhaust.
exhaust shops that do mandrel bending are few and far between, mostly just guys who do performance exhaust will have them as they are extremly pricey machines. some shops may be able to build you mandrel bent exhaust by using pre-bent pipe (called U-bends or J-bends) and weld the system together. i have done this many timesit works out great however its quite time consuming.
