Daily driver Budget Build

Hey guys I no budgets builds have been gone over million times on the forum but please bare with me, I have been a long time member of the forum and try to stay active in the cobalt community. so here is my plans I have a 2006 cobalt SS LSJ it's my daily driver and has 110,000 miles on it currently my MODS are 2.85 4 bolt pulley,60's, ZZP mid length header with high flow cat, 3 inch exhaust, 3 inch ZZP intake, flow through tank, and a dual pass setup. My car has a bad head gasket so I'm going to pull the motor and want to do a little budget build while I have it out. I own and operate a motorcycle and ATV repair shop and build single cylinder mottos every day so I'm not stupid but the car side of stuff is a little bit different so this is why I'm coming to you guys. I'm going to do a GEN 3 block with K1 Rods and re use my crank, I'm wondering what you guys would recommended for pistons and compression ratio. On quad stuff I always use wiseco pistons with a little higher comp ratio to help with little more torque. Also I'm wanting to put in a set of cams and have the head ported.

Contact lsjion for head porting. Great work, great pricing.
Compression ratio... you on E85? I'd say 10.5:1 Call up diamond tell them what you want. Total seal for rings.
Cams, I'd go custom from comp or stage 3 from zzp
Might want to get a set of valve springs to throw in while your at it... if you have them by time you ship your head off lsjion will put them in for you

I would resleeve the block so the bore is good and round (pm me if interested) have alan port the blower and josh do the head as for cams I would run the ottp stg2 if staying on stock compression if you raise it to 10.5 then go to the stg3 cams run a set of molner rods as for rings you want to run total seal conventional ap stainless with a naiper 2nd ring get a set of arp or golden eagle head studs

those are good but require a longer valve to run and the setup can be expensive

Mr b, I know you have been around forever, but do you have a cobalt? You are very smart with them, I would image yours is very well built.

Ati doesn't affect it daily driver. Neutrals will create a small vibration. I personally didn't notice any vibrations. Other people claim to feel a light vibration.

But note that if you get an ATI, you also need a machined front cover.

you don't feel anything because your rotating assembly is balanced if it was not things would be different

I'm digging this thread out of the grave lol things have changed a little bit since i started this thread First this is not going to be my DD anymore, and i plan on going turbo so i went ahead and got a gen 3 block from Mongel with K1 rods, NBS,machined front cover for ATI, and Wiseco Piston with Total Seal rings we went ahead and made it a 2.4L we topped it off with my LSJ head that i had the local machine shop go through and do a valve job and new valve seals on.

I'M trying to get everything for the motor done so i can mate it to the tranny and put the cradle back into the car. things i still need are:

Clutch
Flywheel bolts (Reuse stock or ARP)
Turbo (Need Recommendations) was thinking 256et
External Waste gate (Need Recommendations)
Dump tune
Down pipe

Flywheel bolts and balancer bolt are torque to yield and cannot be reused.
