Darn Downpipe..

So I bought the zzp header and downpipe combo and my damn downpipe unbolted from the header tonight on the way home. From first glance it appears that a bolt or two came undone. Its like half on half off and running open headers is ridiculously loud.

Monday I will have the shop look at it and see what they can do, do you guys think I should contact zzp and tell them about this, is it a common issue? I swear I read somewhere that people were having problems with there downpipes and bolts or something, maybe im wrong though.

Let me know, thanks guys.

If I remember right the mid-length combo came with aluminum washers that after a while the bolts would wear through. Just grab some grade 8 nuts, bolts, and washers from lowes or home depot or wherever and replace them. ZZP started using better hardware after the first big group buy on the mid-length's because so many people were complaining about them.

I had some grade 8 washers laying around when I installed my mid-length header/DP and I used those instead of the ZZP washers, but I used the ZZP bolts and nuts. I havn't had a problem yet and I have 1500-2000 miles them.

I am pretty sure its the bolts, I havent really been able to see. I grabbed a flash light and saw that there was a 1/2 inch gap give or take that i could see from the bottom of the header and the top of the downpipe. Aka it was sealed, there was 1/2 inch gap where the air was coming out of.

Hopefully I explained that right, thats all i could see with a crappy flash light.
But I will have the shop fix it on monday for sure.

My brother just had my hand-me-down 3" cat-less ZZP DP break at the flex joint today . I'll have to look into that.

As for letting ZZP know on the bolts I believe they already know that the washers were weak and changed them, although if you just got your combo they may not have upgraded the hardware like I thought. Even if they havn't upgraded the hardware enough people have had problems with it that I doubte they are going to do anything about it if you do say anything...just my opinion though if it makes you feel better let them know.

this could of been install error most likely sounds like they didnt tourqe em properly... tighten up or take it back to the shop but the dp itself should be welded on while they have it off... save you an embarassing moment

why are you taking it to a shop to put on a bolt? can you twist your arm from right to left? and left to right? if so, you're qualified to put a new bolt on and don't have to wait till monday.

blazin remembers =P. I need to put in my sig "recovering from 2 spinal surgeries, being paralyzed for a month, being in the hospital for 6 months, breaking my back in 3 different places, have 5lbs of metal in my back"

Thats basically why i can jack up the car, slide under neath it, and put in 2 new screws.
I am sponsored by a shop thats close to me, they discount all the work and they do a very very good job. I highly doubt it was install error by the tech, however it is possible.

When i get it back in the shop on monday morning I will see what is up.

edit: one thing i will say about this site is that people need to lighten up with taking cars to the shop. Some people can't physically do certain things, and some people just don't have the knowledge nor the tools nor the experience and feel better having someone with the tools and know how to do it.

Every time I post that I am taking the car to the shop to have x x x or x done, I get my a$$ chewed out for it. Lighten up a bit guys.

home depot, 2 inch X 1/2 inch steel bolts (the stockers are liek 2x1/4), and matching washers, and your set. Total for repair is like $2 and about 5 minutes tightening them down

Holy **** i have seen like 10 of these threads in the last month.

Damn ZZperformance step your game up. You used to sell quaity **** now you sell borderline trash.

My ZZP Downpipe broke at the flex joint after 5,000 Miles. They then charged me shipping so they could fix there mistake. Sold my header to a friend had 6,000 miles on it and Boom it cracks. So there parts dont even last 10K miles.

i'm pretty sure something is wrong with my downpipe. i bought it in the first group buy. my car sounded sweet untill a few weeks ago, now it's getting a little raspy at certain rpm's. sometimes when i close my driver door, i can hear something kinda jingling around, sound like it's coming from the cat. i've been under the car 3 times now looking for leaks, and there are none. just friday i made sure all the header bolts, dp bolts, and exhaust bolts were tight. and they all were. so i'm pretty damn sure it's not a leak. i'm hoping i didn't spit a chunk of cat out, because i'd be pissed as hell. i don't even drive the car that hard

I still haven't put my ZZP combo on yet and I'm kind of afraid to. lol

I'm thinking of doing a couple tack welds on the flex pipe to see if it will stop it from blowing of the pipe. Any thoughts on if that would be a good idea?

hmmm from this picture it makes me think that mine broke at the flex pipe. I will update this tomorrow though and let you know what really broke. If it broke at the flex pipe i am going to see if theres anything the shop can do, like weld it or something to make everything good to go. because running open headers is no fun. This really pisses me off. ZZP will be hearing from me tomorrow if its something "major" instead of a simple broken bolt.

Wow It's incredible..Mine broke in the same spot as yours it's been about 2 weeks since i sent it in to get repaired and they still have not fixed it(zzp)...this seems to be a weak spot in these dp and zzp needs to reinforce them!!!As of now ZZP is Not recommended to be used as a dp option, They suck !!!

it could be a bolt but most likly if u were doing some launching or steping on it,it's most likely the flex,I can say that one of the main reason why they break is hard launches with stock/Filled mounts

I have never launched the car since I bought it. I was just simply driving when I heard my exhaust change slightly, gave it a little gas, it changed more, and then was real easy on it however kept cruise control at 65 tell i got to the gas station, noticed my AFR went from normal to --- so i knew it was the downpipe, and it got REALLY loud. I looked in the dark saw it was the downpipe, but not sure if its the flex or if its the bolts. I will find out in about 8hrs.

I have only had this on the car for like a week. This is ridiculous.
