Dealership rip off for stage 2 install?

Ok well i just got off the phone with my closest chevy dealer and the service man told me that it would take 6 hours to install the stage 2 kit onto my car. He told me if i dont have a gm slip to prove i bought the kit from a gm dealer it wont be under warranty. He said the best bet is to buy it for 750 from their dealership. I know i can get it cheaper and i have a better price. They want in all a total of 1289 for the kit and the install. Dont you think 540 is too much just to put this kit in. Anyone have suggestions?

Book time on it is 3 hours or less...can't remember the exact. I believe an hour for the injectors and 1.5 for the belt and pulley, and .5 for the tune. If they want to charge you 6 hours of labor, shop around, they're definitely ripping you off.

yeah, and it doesnt matter where you buy it from, as long as a GM place does the installation / checks off that you did it correctly its under warranty. still have to go to them for the tune though. anything over 800 id say is too much.

Warranty will stay my friend. The kit can be self installed and still warrantied. The dealership will still have to reflash the PCM for you, and in doing so they are supposed to check the install to see if it's up to snuff.

I did the injectors by myself in 30 mins. I had help swapping the pulley that was done in less than an hour. And the flash was done at the dealer. That took about 45 mins but they had agreed on only 30 mins of shop time for it before they started. Realistically this should only take about 2-2.5 hours worth of labor. Max. Don't let them screw you.

Just called another dealer in my area and they want 212 for the installation im guessing thats with the reflash as well. Will I still have a warranty if I order it from crateenginedepot.com? Oh what kind of gas mileage do you guys get with the stage 2?

Yes you still have warranty. I got mine from crate engine, and had my dealer install it for $216 so that sounds right.
Crate engine depot is a GM dealership, so you dont have to worry about your warranty

I've done about 11 swaps and that is very quick. The belt was a PITA in the beginning, now the whole process is done inside an hour. (the whole stage 2 install)

I was wondering what the "average" guy paid for install... so somewhere under $250 eh?

As long as crate engine depot keeps their prices down... I'll probably get stage 2 here in the next month or so.

dude, save yourself some cash...buy the injectors, pulley and a belt and have someone flash the car for you. You can get the same setup for alot less....say parts and a tune for $525

I had considered that... however the "warranty" aspect is very appealing to me... the dealership is right down the street if I ever have any issues... plus I really want the stage-2 hub so I can swap down pulley sizes later... I haven't seen anyone offering that hub for sell.

Also... I don't know of anyone local that has HPT and would be able to tune me.

I haven't swapped the belt yet, so that's not in the time. And the pulley swap was done by Paul (06BlackG85SS) and he's done so many he's got it down to a science.

So does anyone know what the deal is with this? For example if I bought the Kit from CrateEngineDepot would there be some kinda sip like what he's talkin about in the package? Or is this just BS? I'd like to know from folks who have ordered the kit from CrateEngineDepot.

You don't need a ''slip", no one else makes the stage kits (I mean the GM ones). You can install the kit yourself and have a GM dealership install the flash. Then,if anything is questioned. They have proof because your VIN is connected with the flash which can be read by a tech2.

Yep, at the bottom of the install instructions there is a code that your dealer has to give to the techline to download the flash from GM. Crate Eng. D. is a chevy dealer (look at the botton of their webpage) so there is no problem with their parts , all genuine GM Performance Parts. Here's their address at the bottom of their website . Later Ruk
