deleting the rear O2 sensor

i have an 06 and i put a 3" catless downpipe on it. i have a check engine light which i knew was going to be showing up. i dont really care but i was talking with a guy the other day and he said that some of these cars will log it every time i turn the car on and will eventually fill up my cars comp. if that is a lie then no big deal but i was wondering if there was a way to delete that rear O2 sensor from the stock ecu. let me know guys. thanks

Get it deleted asap, I had my light on for about 2 months and my gas mileage was down to 19mpg. After getting it deleted it went up to 24mpg. But it might not be the same case with you, Im just letting you know.

Deleting your rear O2 won't effect your mileage at all, it's sole purpose is to make sure your cat is working. Not to mention you're not actually doing anything to the car's performance, you're simply telling it to ignore the O2 warning signal (it's still failing all over the place).

Here's a quick, easy, cheap fix.

You will want the 18mm anti-foulers (PN 42009)

You not only want the code deleted but you want Catalytic Over Temp Protection turned off or esle your mpg and your performance will be crap.

It senses temperatures coming from the cat...

Its always running, like knock protection (knock retardation).. it works when it notices something going wrong.

COT is a fuel enrichment that notices when the second O2 sensor is too hot. If you take your Cat off and dont disable that, then you probably took the short yellow bus with the ramp to school.

My advice to most people: Don't modify the car unless you know what each mod is doing. Just because its a part for sale somewhere doesn't mean you need it. I have seen a few rookie mistakes lately, mainly with people trying to make intakes for the turbos.

You seriously need a tune after taking the cat off. No excuses.

The fouler trick should take care of this as well since the O2 sensor would not be getting as hot, in theory.

thanks guys.... except for the guy that thinks im a retard. my thinking was " since i have to replace this thing because of the massive hole in my flex pipe..... i might as well get the catless downpipe." had to order it in a hurry so i wasnt just running open header. i will fix the prob and hopefully you fix your attitude bro. ps you dont know beast until you get a bike.

I think if you just delete 0420 nothing will pop up.

I used one and it didn't work. Maybe if he get's a proper one: ie the weapon r one would probably work.

HOW TO in HPTuners

As Steve mentioned...

Eliminating the rear O2 sensor
Engine Diagnostics>DTC's
for the following codes, uncheck the SES option and set the ERROR MODE to 3-No Error Reported

P0036
P0054
P0136-P0141
P0420

All the ones you want to turn off are labeled H02S..........sensor 2

For those without a cat, also turn off COT (set the values to 0)
Engine>Fuel Control>COT Lean Cruise>COT Adder Max
Engine>Fuel Control>COT Lean Cruise>COT Adder Min

Yeah, we just had a catless 2.4 try the trick and it started throwing heater codes. Well, I guess now it's time to find out if Texas emissions testing actually reads the O2 readings or just checks the codes.
