Magnaflow is not quiet, quiet mufflers are dynomax super turbo's etc. Most people upgrade there exhaust aka the catback because that is EXTREMELY restrictive. I would run an aftermarket header/dp/catback with a high flow cat, a resonator (large one) and a dynomax super turbo. This will flow better then stock and be close to stock sounding level, just slightly louder at wide open throttle.

If you upgrade just the header/dp, you aren't gaining much. The really restricitve part in the exhaust, besides the stock muffler/resonator/cat is where it drops down to a very very small section by the axle. I would go with a full 2.5 inch cat back, to drop your boost levels but yet keep sound to a minimum.

I will have the dynomax turbo muffler here shortly and I will get you a video, although I am on a 3inch exhaust setup without a cat so it will be a little bit louder then yours, but still reasonably quiet.

dynomax super turbo eventually gets loud after the fiberglass packing blows out. I'd recommend a stainlessworks chambered turbo muffler as an alternative. It is essentially the same design as the dynomax ST, but it is all stainless contruction, including stainless steel wool packing. That means the sound will never change.

Didn't realize the Dynomax ST's used a packing material that could blow up. Sooo does the stainless works muffler not use packing material? I mean, even if it's better packing material, won't it still blow out sometime? My magnaflow packing blew out and sounds like garbage now. It's stupid loud lol.

Op I am uploading a video of my car with a ZZP midlength combo with a stock exhaust.

Pyros, I love the way your car sounds now with the new muffler. I will be looking in to stainlessworks.

That video blows lol, all you can hear is a high pitched whine of something in the background, don't think it's wind but it's like tools or a shop making noise I dunno. Eitherway a nice in car would be good for the dynomax.

Has anyone had an issue with the dynomax ST getting louder or blowing out the packing over time?

Sorry, but if you had heard my magnaflow before you would instantly see the difference in that vid. The fact that you can actually hear the supercharger is the key indicator lol.

The reason the stainlessworks' packing wont blow out is because it is stainless steel wool. It simply wont deteriorate the way fiberglass would. I don't mean to pitch their product so adamantly, its just that I seem to be the only cobalt that is running their muffler and so many people are missing out just because the dynomax is more popular.

Stone629 - what catback are you running? Stock or what? There is no way thats a 2.5 inch catback or 3 inch catback, that has to be stock lol. That is mad quiet compared to every magnaflow setup I have ran haha, although I am flowing much much much much more air then you =P

Pyro - do you have a link to the muffler?

Still though, 50 bucks for a dynomax, even if the dynomax gets slightly louder after 6months, I don't think it's going to be annoyingly loud. I am still leaning towards the super turbo, but I might go with the stainless if it's not unreasonably priced. It does make more sense to pay 120ish once, instead of 50-60 over and over every year.

Although if the dynomax with the packing blown out, is still only a little bit louder then it is from day one, I would personally probably be happy with it, so maybe I should give the ST a try anyway lol.

I'm running the stock catback piping only. The OEM muffler was removed and a 2.5" Magnaflow off-set muffler was welded in its place. I also removed the stock resonator and welding in a 2.5" glass pack. My piping starts off at the shorty header, then a 3" downpipe into 2.5" piping until it gets to the rear axle where drops to 2.25".

Heres the link to those mufflers, yes they are nice but alot more money. I was on a budget so the dynomax was the right choice for me.

No way in hell can I justify 210 dollars + shipping for a muffler lol. That is way to much in my opinion. I would rather go through 4 50 dollars dynomax super turbo mufflers over 4 years, then one 210 dollar muffler at once haha.

Actually I didn't know the dynomax was only fifty bucks. Thats pretty darn good! The non-polished SW is $167+shipping, but yeah thats still high. I guess I just prefer to pay a little more for a permanent solution.

I hear you man and in the long run that seems like the smartest/best solution. However the way I am looking at it is like this. I want something louder than stock, but not obnoxious. The dynomax st at 50 bucks is this solution for me and IF the packing starts to give out and it gets slightly louder than great because I want it to be louder than stock, just not annoyingly loud. The way I see it is at 50 bucks, why not lol?

i srsly like the sound of the stainless works muffler, but im on a budget so i dont really wanna spend the 210 for it.
im leaning more towards the dynomax ST cuz its like 45 dollars and im gonna replace the stock resonator with a magnaflow 18" so it quiets it down even more.
what size in and out do i need for the resonator? and same for the muffler?

I already posted the muffler you need its part#17733 get it at summit racing for 46.99.

As for your resonator get you need 2.5 inch inlet/outlet and atleast 18 inch long with 4 inch round body.
