Downpipe to exhaust manifold bolts....HELP!
The bolts connecting the downpipe and exhaust manifold (header) are stuck. Any ideas on how to get them loose? Or should I just take it to the exhaust shop in the morning. I am just trying to install my zzp long tube header and downpipe, but this little hiccup has stopped the whole process. Does anyone know if the stock header will slide out still connected to downpipe. HELP!

spray on some PB blast and let it sit for about 5 min. then put the nut on the bolt do not tighten down just run it flush with the end of the bolt then take a punch and hammer and hit it out do not hit the bolt without the nut on it or u will mess the threads up

I tried the wd40. I am going to tighten up the manifold and drive it to a exhaust shop just down the street in the morning. If they can break the bolt then I can finish the rest. I spent 2 hours trying to loosen those down bolts. Everything else was fine though. It just had to be something though.

Should try them when warm. Start the car and let it idle for a bit or drive it around for a min, then throw it right up and try to break them loose. They are usually rusted in place, and a good penetrating oil (wd40 just isn't strong enough) and proper tools will get them, the heat helps.
IIRC, you can take the whole thing out, manifold and downpipe, but I haven't done it in a long time and you would need the car to be pretty high in the air unless you are on a lift.

I used a jack handle with a hole on the end as a breaker bar on a ratchet wrench with a big extension. I positioned my self laying on the ground with the most leverage i could salvage. If all else fells set it up, then kick it, lol.
PS I have an impact wrench that I did not have at the time I took these bolts out. would have definately helped.

I am going to torque down the exhaust manifold in the morning. lift the car and try getting the last bolt out. I bought some pb blaster tonight and have not had any luck at all. If not then I will take it to the local exhaust shop have them loosen it and bring it back to my place to install the parts. Pray for me lol ^_^

We did my LNF last weekend. 47K miles of heating and cooling cycles, and all the crap Seattle's roads can cake on there. Couldn't get the nuts loose with a breaker, especially the ones for the catback. Didn't want to round them off. One by one we heated them up good and hot with a propane torch from Home Depot and put the wrench to them. They came off with no problem.

clean the rust with a wire brush as best as u can, throw heat on that bitch if u can, but impact that **** off. I got a 800ft/lb tq impact gun and if the bolts wont come off theyll snap and you can just put new (stainless steel) ones in its place with some washers

Just like o3nisoaso3 said. I took an impact to all three on the manifold and the two on the back end and snapped them all. I then took a drimel with a good cutting disk and cut the remaining parts of the bolts out, but cutting U shaped grooves in the manifold. I then bought grade 8 rust proof bolts nuts and lock washers and boom done. Now when I remove it in the future for upgrades it'll take 5 min.
But your going to have to learn how to work with heat because the manifold bolts holding it to the engine block are the same things!! stupid frign design!!!
