dyno tested the ss

i just did a dyno test on my ss cobalt and i hit 198.3whp and 179.7wtq in 2 pulls in 4th gear and after the first run i thought i would take a look at my boost gauge and said 90kpa at 6000rpm thats more boost then 12psi but not getting the hp or wtq i guess its still good for stock i'm wondering how everybody complains about 10psi with 210hp 189wtq and the other dyno on this site something is bogus about that because to have 20whp more then mine would half to be modified somehow this is a dynojet dyno done in oakville ONT. at tag racecraft this is no BS i will post my graph when someone tells me how my ss has 4100km on it the intake air was at 92.9degrees so i wiil post my graph soon

Most are running 93-94 octane. Not sure how the fuel varies from the US to Canada either. Also some places are now adding ethenol to the fuel for better emissions, but it hurts performance. From my experience, the gas in canada doesnt seem to work as well as the gas here in the states.

I had a 2001 S10 that was Multifuel capable (4 banger version). I could run it on strictly ethenol, however in the manual it did say you would lose some power and mpg.

SSC,

I believe there are a HOST of calibrations you can do on the dyno. So it's very possible thats why you only did 198 WHP.

You should post your dyno chart so we can see the dynojet settings and compare with my dyno and a couple of others..

You need to scan your dyno and upload it to the Cobaltss.net Gallery

Actually, if you most know, the best gas in the world comes from Europe, then Canada, then the US.

I read an article in a magazine about a year or so ago on wheel dynos. It said there is three different kind of wheel dynos and it told what was different about them. They tested a stock mustang on all three and got three different results. Some were as much as 30hp off. Basiclly at the end of the article they said wheel dynos aren't completely accurate, so don't use them for braging rights. But they are good to show you how much more performnce you can get out of your car with the mods that you do. So that could be the reason people are getting different numbers. If anybody wants the article I'll try to find it and scan it in.

I wouldn't put much faith in the numbers from one dyno to another, even if they are the same type of dyno.

Just stick with the same dyno (if possible) and when you make mods, re-dyno to tune the mods (if it something "tunable") and to see how the mods have affected your performance and (possibly more importantly) your air-fuel ratio. (This is the reason to use SAE corrected #'s.)

you said you got 198 in 4th gear... try in 3rd and you'll get higher numbers.... i bet you get at least 205-207 if your pullin 198 in 4th.

Yeah man you gotta do a run in 3rd gear to get your numbers up. Everyone else I've seen run on the dyno ran a 3rd gear pull!!

Yeah I know when I had my mustang, there were dynojet dynos and mustang dynometers. The mustang dynometers were considerably lower when it came to the numbers, but they are supposed to be a little more accurate compared to the dynojet. I dunno if that's the case in this situation...heck I don't even know what kind of dynos FWD cars use yet lol.

my dyno corrects the gear ratio automatically to a 1:1 ratio. I would rather have acurate HP readings than trick the dyno and basically lie about my numbers. The 1/4 mile track won't lie.

any dyno that can measure rwhp can also be used to measure fwhp, you just turn the car around.

4th gear

i know that 3rd gear will improve the numbers but i heard that the 4th gear was the best because of the 1 to 1 ratio

Have you waited out the break in period, 1000-1500km or mi. Apparently it isn't until after you've broken it in will you see the 210-225hp on the dyno.

I did like 203 in 4th gear and then 213 in 4th gear with an exhaust on.

Every dyno can vary slightly and some vary quite a bit.

I used to go to TAG Motorsports as well and dyno numbers have always been a little low.

My previous ride pulled 205 whp there and at a different one pulled 215-220. As long as you put down the right times I wouldn't worry about it too much.
