Dynomax VT Muffler
Terrible, terrible product. Just Tuesday night I put the 17957 3" in/out on in place of my Hahn muffler in my Hahn 3" cat-back system to quiet things down. This is the version made for the 4.0L and up application, which was what Dynomax advised me to go with. While I do agree, it was slightly quieter when the car was on a slight decline and at idle, it is terrible otherwise. This thing has about 4 different tones to it. All of them sound like ass. When you first start to accelerate the car sounds like a Subaru that doesn't have equal length headers. Then the flapper opens fully to a nice raspy, buzzy, unpleasant sound. There is a drone on the highway, don't be fooled. The drone is just as bad as the Hahn was. It is obnoxious. On flat surfaces and slight inclines, it again sounded like a Subaru. The only time it was actually quiet was when I was engine braking or the car was off. Thankfully they offer a sound performance guarentee. It's already being returned.

Well I'm glad I just spot welded it in place so I could weld the Hahn muffler back on without degrading the look/performance/fit of the system. The Tenneco rep got a little pissy when I told them I did that instead of just clamping it in place. I said, I'm sorry, the muffler didn't come with a clamp. But I do have a welder.
I've tried to tell people that the VT muffler isn't what people are making it out to be.
I promise you, if you want a nice quiet sound, get the Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler. Trust me.

Nah. I used to run 400+whp through the stock exhaust with a bottle lol. Aside from that it drove around daily at a 320+whp level for years. But I am going to give the super turbo a shot as Tenneco is going to send me one in advance to install then I can send this garbage VT back.
Agreed 100%. I luv my muffler and your the reason I got it based on how awesome your car sounds. Hows your build going man?
i have been running my stock muffler on my vibrant 3in catback and for the pass few months
if i went into boost for a few pulls i would blow up the gasket at the header/downpipe haha
my buddy was saying it could be the stocker causing back pressure which makes sense. the only reason its like that as the vibrant header/dp combo and 3in back was getting too much attention
but right now i just run it with a slight blown gasket(exhauast leak) and it sounds like poop but sounds dope at low rpms....sort of
im too looking at the dynomax super turbo muffler, thats what im getting at haha

Don't get a Super Turbo. They are good mufflers, but the fiberglass packing will eventually burn up and it will start getting very hollow and raspy sounding. Spend the money and get a stainlessworks turbo muffler. It uses a similar design as the SuperTurbo, but has stainless packing inside so the sound won't change.
Just got mine.

I had the gmpp touring (sounded the best of all)
stock with a magnaflow muffler (rasp)
the magnaflow cause everyone said it was good and it sounded like ass
hahn 3" catback, this sounded horrible too
every combination of downpipes and headers you can think of
in the end the ONLY thing that removed the rasp was the installation of a magic thing called a "turbo"
Yeah I didn't even think to look at stainless works stuff. I have done lots of business with them in the past. If I like the way this Dynomax sounds, I will return it and get the stainless works version. Though I am curious because their case is only 5" x 9" X 14" and the Dynomax I am getting is 5.5" x 11" x 20". I'm assuming it is probably going to be quieter honestly. Despite the lack of longevity. Dynomax does offer a lifetime warranty of sorts. I am wondering if that covers packing material. I do have hopes for the Dynomax super turbo over any of the Magnaflow stuff though because Magnaflow only offers a straight through design. They don't have any chambered or even s-bend mufflers like the super turbo.
Just FYI.. i had the under 4.0L version.. is hella loud at anything over 30% throttle.. some time later the spring broke.. they replaced it.. i got the over 4.0l version as the replacement.., and I swear.. i can tell no difference..lol

Haha. I had a feeling that was the case. It seems like an awesome gimmick, but it's just that. A gimmick. Not sure how they're still selling them. I guess on engines with two cylinder banks it may sound better.
