E85 in 2006 Cobalt S/C??

I head if you put one or 2 gallons in your tank and fill the rest with regular gas you shouldn't have a problem (Just like race gas 100-110 octane)

Anyone install an E85 conversion kit? Anyone run E85 without the kit?

E85 is publicly available in 3 areas around MD and I was thinking about getting some. Cause it's octane level is avg'd at 105.

you might not use it for gains, helps with detonation in the hot summer months.

Whats your HP goals etc? I know ZZP laid down some good numbers using this so everyone's curious but really its not worth it. I'm sure you can reaxch your Hp goals without it and in much more convenient fashion

you would need, larger injectors, e85 requires ~30%more fuel than unleaded gasoline, now you need a harness for these injectors, than you need to tune for more fuel, u can actually tune for e85, or u can command a 9.5a/f@wot, which will make ur car spray loads of e85 which will balance out to a good 11.5ish :p

i havent actually tried it, but i know someone else went that route with their LSJ, they just commanded some like 9 or 9.5...also once u go e85 ur running e85 until u change the tune again to run unleaded

With having no mods, there would be no point unless you just wanted to run it for the hell of it. A gallon or 2 on a full tank isn't going to hurt anything.

If you mix some E85 with reagular gas you will reduce detonation effectively raising the octane rating of the gas. As it has been said, if you aren't tuned for running higher octane you will get no gains and you can in fact cause the fuel to not burn completely and can lose HP.

If you mix 2 gallons of E85 with 91 octane gas you would be around 93 octane. It won't hurt anything, in fact most states use ethanol in regular gas which factors into the octane. (Here in Missouri it is law that all gas stations must use 10% ethanol in their fuel UNLESS ethanol is more expensive than gasoline)

You can "convert" your car to run E85, in fact it has been done. You need big ass injectors and a tune. There is some debate whether you need to do anything else, but I know for sure at least one person on this site uses E85.

Yes. Kits are available online right now for $330. It's an easy as hell install, a 10 year old could do it!

Sunoco down the street from me has 93 octane as their "premium" if I added 2 gallson of E85 I guess it would be about 95 octane which is still good.

also make sure yourfuel lines are compatable. E85 will eat through regular lines over time, they have to be changed. i know that sounds crazy, but my source is the lead chemist at futurefuel in batesville.

unless you're throwing a different "race" tune on for it it's pointless.

Interesting information. We only get 91 octane where I live, so I can add a gallon or two to a tank of gas and raise the octane a bit without it altering the stoichiometric AFR?

Stoich will be altered, but if you are only adding 2 gallons or so it will only change by a few points and won't effect anything. Again, in Missouri where I live, all fuel is 10% ethanol and my car runs just fine even though the computer is still programmed to run at a stoich of 14.7.
