I believe the plugs are fired directly by the coils.

Have them check the ECU (PCM), cam sensor, and electrical in general, I've seen all of those messed up on one car at one time... Not a cobalt, a '96 Neon . Ask them if any codes come up when the run a scan on it, if there are more than 2-3 major ones it's probably the ECU. Also, any stalling?

Last night my SS crapped out on me, the tach dropped to zero and stayed there, and the car wouldn't rev for anything. i turned it off and back on and nothing chnaged, so i pretty much rolled into a parking lot and turned it off while i fished around for the GM roadside assistance number. right before i hit send (2-3 minutes) i tried it again and it started up fine, the tach was working and it drove fine, but the engine light was still on. i drove home and was going to take it in but the light was off this morning. i'm still going to take it in, but it seems like a wire got loose or hot or something, so i'm not in a huge hurry, because i dont' think they'll be able to do anything. i had the same problem with an old cavalier and the air conditioner. it kept blowing fuses, but it took like five trips to service for them to find that a wire was getting hot.

I have random misfires as well, but haven't taken it in yet. I'm interested in seeing what your resolution is, if any.

How often was yours misfiring?

i had the same problem with my ss i figured out the prob. it was a loose battery connection , after i tightened up the connectors i never had the problem again. the check engine light is normal when you disconnect the battery , it stays on for almost a day, until the ecu reprogrames itself, every time i disconnect the battery the check engine light will come on for a day

engine problems

i know we do not have wires but we have insulators from the coil down to the plug. they are in my car right now with the laptop gathering data to send to gm tech guys.i was told they were talking about giving us a new car/ we really like the black one , i hope maybe sometime today they can find the problem,,, i know lots of things about all cars but when they take out the accelerator cable problems do occur, i asked them to look at both signals at the pedal and at the throttle body but they told me i was crazy,my brother is a service writer at tuscaloosa chevrolet and i asked him to see if they listened to me and they were looking into that he said the signals do not match, but got to get back to work here at midas i am completley lost on this car now
