Exhaust with Bypass valve

My friend went to buy an R32 today, so I went with him. While we were looking at the car waiting on the salesman, I noticed a switch beside the seat, just a little silver switch. This is a used car, so I had no clue what it was because it doesnt come with the car. So i flipped it and noticed the exhaust sounded different afterwards. Well, in one position the exhaust sounded stock, and was not loud at all. In the other position it sounded like an aftermarket exhaust, and really good. So I looked it up when I got home and the switch has a bypass valve. The one position runs it through all the cats and mufflers and everything, when you flip the switch it triggers a butterfly valve that directs the exhaust to another set of pipes that bypas all the cats and everything. I have not seen anything on this site about this, and was wondering if anyone knew of any setups they make for our car. I am probably going to set this up soon, this is really good for all of you guys who have to pass inspection with an actual reader in your exhaust instead of just plugging into OBDII. Im going to replace my headers and downpipe and add the butterfly valve after that. The normal setting will direct the exhaust through the cat and everything and stock muffler. I will run pipes from the bypass valve back to the muffler and join them back up with the exhaust. This will be real nice on those long interstate drives, where the drone of the exhaust is annoying, you just flip a switch and it sounds stock again. I am going to talk to the guy who is going to tune my car about how much this will affect how the car drives, but it shouldnt be too bad. This link;

Shows a picture of how it works on the bottom of the front page, this is a little more extreme because they even skipped the muffler but I dont want it that loud.

This is the only thing I've seen, it'll need a good fabrication from a muffler shop.

I don't think there is anything exactly like that out their for the Cobalts. You can get an electrical cut-out, which is a "butterfly" after the cat in the downpipe that can be opened up to allow the exhaust flow out of the car without going through the remainder of the downpipe and cat-back exhaust. The exhaust flow would just go through the header and cat that way.

I forgot to say where to find those cut-outs, , they are made by QTP. You can get them at, quicktimeperformance.com

That is sweet, but you'll have to deal with the O2 sensors which could make it difficult.

i have a qtp cutout on my cobalt ss it sounds pretty good to me, its alot deeper with no ricey sounds at all, i put it after the cat and before the muffler on then pipe close to the left side rear wheel and it dumps the exhaust with a turndown, rather then back into the stock pipe. it definatly turns heads when you have it open and you get on it.
