Exhaust manifold heat shield

Do I need to install the exhaust manifold heat shield with an aftermarket header? Will it hurt anything? From what I have read, it will not even fit.

It most likely wont have the provisions to bolt up and it is not really needed.

Actually there are 2 provisions on the block and inch above the ex mani, With some mallet work to the heat shield I got mine on with a aftermarket header.
