Flow through vs standard option b and other cooling mods

So I'm looking for people who've done larger flow through tanks as oppose to just running an option b tank. Also, what are y'all opinions of the Killer Chiller that's available through OTTP?

i have been using a flow-thru for a couple years now. i like it. i dont know which one is better but i know this option works for me. i am pretty sure the killer chill is more of a hassle then to deal with.

I don't know anything about the products, but I do know I wouldn't go with OTTP for ANYTHING.

I have a flow through tank, holds about a half gallon maybe a bit more. It was made by Vulcan, not sure if they are still in production. It's nice because I can put ice cubes into it and it looks great in the engine bay.

Yeah I don't think I ever got a chance to see yours Blake.

I was actually thinking a multi-gallon tank in the trunk.

Didnt hatrickstu run a flow through tank and it was found to be non-beneficial. I remember the thread but hell if I can find it. and it may have not even been him.

Real man to talk to on this is Powell. Hopefully he will chime in here.

It probably isn't really anymore beneficial than option b it just bleeds the air A LOT faster. I've had to completely empty and refill mine a few times and in 15 seconds of letting the pump run, it's totally bled of air.

I believe it is beneficial, since the standard option B tank does not necessarily circulate the coolant around, just a small trickle at best. With the flow through tank, there is a lot more volume of coolant flowing and able to go through the laminovas. I would think this would account for faster recovery time between pulls. Will you see a true IAT2 difference between the two? Probably not, but if you are running your car through a road course I'm sure the faster recovery time will help out. If anything, the fact that you can add in ice cubes to the mix certainly helps...I did this when I had my car on the dyno and when I am at the track. Flow through + ice = low IAT2s.

John likes options B.

But the best cooling setup I have seen has been a modified air to air IC, killer chiller, single pass IM and flow through tank.

Any idea what the ambient temperature was in that video?

I do two runs, 1st through 3rd back to back and actually on the start of the second run the AIT2 is lower then the first because the car hasn't soaked as much. The fact that it was 57* ambient out really doesn't do the system justice as the warmer it is out the better the system shines because the KC has more heat to remove. So this is with a TVS 2.5 ring and 2"ic piping. It only looks so dark out is because I fucted with the video so the gauges show up better. Don't mind the Tron soundtrack or my buddies yammering.
So the air was pretty cool. But it is still pretty impressive how slow the charged air temps raised and how fast they recovered.

With a 2.5" pulley on the TVS!!!

The killer chiller runs off the ac right? I just dont see losing a small amount of power to get better iat2's. I guess its good to use to get the water temps cooler before you do a pull.

So that thing is air to air and air to water cooled? That doesn't really seem worth all the hassle to me then. If this was just air to water with the killer chiller it would be impressive numbers but not since it has in essence two intercooling systems. I'll give him credit that is a pretty sweet thing to have thought up and put together but not really practical to put all that work into it for the results it produced.

Pretty much.

But if you got the time and resources, why not?

Personally, I am running the following cooling mods.

Ported Single Pass IM from Euthanasia
Griffin HE
armclure Pass through tank
ZZP Phenolic IM Spacer

The majority of the time my IAT2 are ~10 higher then my IAT1 temps. The charged air temps rise slow and recover quickly. I am happy.

With this hot summer we have been having my IAT1 can be in the 90s and my charged air temps in the 105 to 110.
