Thanks. I was really surprised too. ...as you could tell from my reaction on the video.

Yes, I like the vinyls. If everyone had the same tastes in cars, all of our cars would look the same. I am glad that we have variety. I like that my car is a way to express myself. I know that many people won't like it, and many have told me so. But, it makes me happy every time I see it and drive it. Isn't that what its all about?

So you gained over 10 HP with a 3" in and out muffler? Hmmm... something doesn't seem right. I'm not saying your a liar. What were ambient temps? Did you use the same premium fuel both times? Was the testing the same day?

Thanks!

What i think happend is that something is holding the power back and the 3" just let a little bit of it show.

If your cat is bad, replace it...

The ambient temperature in the shop was nearly identical for all of my dyno runs. In the long version of the video on Streetfire.net I show the temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. I had to cut that stuff out for the YouTube version to make the 10 minute time limit. I think the ambient temperature was about 67 degrees F. Yes, the premium fuel was from the same gas station. The testing was not done the same day, but was on the same dyno. I think the last dyno run was a few weeks ago. But nothing else changed on my car.

The original catalytic converter on my car was damaged about two years ago and was replaced under warranty two years ago. The current catalytic converter and down-pipe is a GM replacement part, so it should be identical to what was originally on the car.

Why would you need the full exhuast?? the stock exhaust is already 2.5" before the axle, so why spend $500+ to replace the pipe.

Change out the header, and get rid of the resonator for a better flowing one and call it good.

yeah you're right. why on earth would you want an exhaust that flows better than the stock design. the better option is definitely to replace that restrictive muffler and **** those other two restrictive cats.

and who cars about the fact that you had to specify "before the axle". why don't you just make my point for me.

I could spend a lot more for an exhaust. I would love to have a Hahn Racecraft full exhaust, but my budget doesn't allow it. I am guessing that others may be in the same boat as me and want a good bang for the buck exhaust upgrade. I am very happy with the Flowmaster muffler. Why is it gay to be frugal?

so because people dont feel the need to spend $500 on new piping and are happy with their muffler doesnt make it gay. Grow up E-thug

Don't know you personally, but all that tells me is you settled. You would love the full exhaust........so what you did is saved enough money for a muffler, but couldn't afford the exhaust? Doesn't make sense. The fact that you bought a muffler means you had some money, why stop? Keep saving, get the exhaust.

haha. i love people who aren't intelligent enough to use social cliches and terms properly. an e-thug is a person who tries to threaten people online or act tough online. I called mufflers gay. that's a statement. and you're an idiot.

Most of the time when you buy a header, you get a downpipe.. that replaces the "restrictive" cat

I said remove the resonator, keep the stock pipe and put a muffler on.
All replacement exhaust follows STOCK design, and the stock design is already 2.5" so please explain how a replacement 2.5" pipe that follows the stock system will flow better than the stock 2.5". the only difference is they use a different resonator/none at all and the put a muffler on.

I love people that aren't intelligent enough to argue about cars, when they think our cars have 2 cats ....you failed already

slap yourself.

My GMPP exhaust does not have the bottle neck that the stock one came with, so, NO, it does not follow the same design as the stock. Not to mention the design of the cat is different making it better flowing. I'd show you a picture from underneath my car but I don't have any. But trust me, the big boxy muffler was replaced with a barrel looking better flowing and lighter one.

And you're right about the cats. I was thinking of the way they designed the muffler. Either way. Better flowing. It's fact, the design is not the same as stock, not even close.

Last I check this so called "cat" in the exhaust system is a RESONATOR, not a catalytic converter..

What bottle neck are you taking about?? the only restrictions in the exhaust are the muffler, resonator, the single cat, and the header.

So once again I say, do not bother wasting $500+ dollars for a different resonator and muffler, your stock Exhaust PIPE is already 2.5" stainless mandrel bent there is no point in replacing the PIPE..buy a resonator, and muffler and you have yourself a perfect cat back exhaust, that will perform just as good as any aftermarket

Last I heard, wasn't the GMPP touring exhaust only 2.25" in diameter anyways?? I'm probably wrong on that, but i thought i'd throw that out there

1st, which one is it. Do we have one or is the ******* roadrage06 wrong. Pretty sure I bought a downpipe with a cat.
http://www.zzperformance.com/cobalt_...=545&catid=155

2nd, if it didn't flow better why would they have made it?, why would people have bought them and why did they dyno higher?

3rd, i can't remember where, or for sure. But I recall there being a bottle-neck on the stock exhaust the the GMPP was to have taken care of. That may have been on the DP that I read that. Not sure. But I still hold that a full exhaust is better. All the parts you listed is basically a whole new exhaust, how does that makes sense? Why would you piece it together instead of just buying a whole new one?

Man you obviously do not know what you are talking about. There is only ONE cat in our exhaust systems, the second cylinder in the exhaust is a resonator, not a cat.

the stock downpipe has the cat in it, you replace the downpipe, you either 1. take out the cat completely, or 2. it has a high flow cat already.

people say the stock dp is restrictive because of the cat, and the slight dent in the DP for the o2 sensor. but the stock DP is already close to 2.75"

replacing just the muffler/over axle like the OP did and replacing the Resonator IS cheaper than buying a 500+ dollar exhaust.. period. the only time its beneficial to replace the WHOLE system is when your upgrading size to say a full 2.75" or 3" exhaust

When you actually learn what you are talking about maybe i'll come back into this thread.

Thanks to those who have sent me private messages. I am glad that I could help the Cobalt community by showing a simple way to get more hp out of our cars.

Oh and nice gains BTW, the car sounds great! I'm really banking on going with a flowmaster muffler.
