I recently put the same muffler on my SC but the 2.5" version. I persoannly love the way it sounds. Nice and deep tone.

It's nice to see you gained instead of loose power since flowmasters have been talked about how you'll loose power

dear god if it sounds anything like what mine did when the pipe came off the header (long story, not going there) then that is FAR from amazing-sounding

if you do save up for the full exhaust, you will be pleased. i love the way my 3" magnaflow sounds

people say the stock dp is restrictive because of the cat, and the slight dent in the DP for the o2 sensor. but the stock DP is already close to 2.75"

replacing just the muffler/over axle like the OP did and replacing the Resonator IS cheaper than buying a 500+ dollar exhaust.. period. the only time its beneficial to replace the WHOLE system is when your upgrading size to say a full 2.75" or 3" exhaust

When you actually learn what you are talking about maybe i'll come back into this thread.

That shows how much you know me. I'm extremely sarcastic and tend to come off as a dick 99% of the time. But I have no problems admitting when I'm wrong.

That said, in my opinion, the stock exhaust would benefit from a complete (not partial) overhaul. This may, also, be due to the fact that I'm slightly OCD. I don't like the idea of peicing things together; I'd feel like I missed something or created another restriction somewhere else.

I obviously don't know enough about the exhaust system on this car to continue this argument and I have no problems accepting that.

Thanks Roadrage06! I wish we could hear people's tone and facial expressioins to go along with what they write. I think there would be much less fighting on this site if we could really understand the context and tone of what people write. That was cool of you to appologize.

Thanks. I am glad I could help.

No problem. I am glad when people tell me exactly what they think. I like knowing that people are honest with me. I sometimes play Devil's advocate too just to make things interresting.

Well said Ryze! Micro thanks for sharing with us. I like it when someone does something different. I am one of those who doesn't have the $500 dollar exhaust either. I just had my resonator cut out and changed the stock muffler for a fart can and I love the sound!
The vinyls are cool!

Thanks! I think you are the 1st person who has told me that they are cool. Most people say I am "gay" because I like the race-car vinyl look. It is nice to know that I am not alone!

Cool. I am glad your car made so much power stock. When I complained to GM that I didn't get the 30 hp gain they advertized for GM stage 1, they told me that my car in stock form made more hp than they advertized for GM stage 1. The GM guy insisted that their HP ratings for the Cobalt were at the flywheel, not the wheels. When I asked him why the stock Cobalts all make about 211 HP + to the wheels in stock form, he didn't reply. He said that I had modified my car before installing GM Stage 1 or I could not have gotten 211 to the wheels. Then I asked him why the stock Cobalt SS Supercharged that was dynoed on the Speed Channel show (where they made the Time Attack Cobalt) made about the same hp as mine. Again, he didn't have an answer for that. I like the fact that my car is under-rated. Or, should I say "was" underated. Now that the car magazines are recognizing the Cobalt, more people recognize the good value of our cars (especially the turbo version).

Here is what the Flowmaster muffler sounds like inside the car during an autocross race. One race is in the rain, the other is after the rain stopped.

It's the stickers, it's amazing how much hp they add.

but on a serious note, nice numbers. Stage 1 is a joke, not sure why you wasted money on that in the first place. Gives you a super rich tune so I can see how you lose power since the pulley isn't changed.

I had the exhaust cut downstream of the resonator. A custom piece of pipe was made that tapered gradually from the stock size tubing to the 3" inlet of the muffler. After the muffler there was a 3" tailpipe.

Buying the GM Stage 1 was a mistake that I hope nobody repeats. I hadn't seen any before-and-after dyno numbers for GM Stage 1, other than what GM published. If I had known how bad it would be, I would not have done it. I thought I could trust GM to deliver the 30 HP over stock that they promised. Boy, was I wrong! I think I am the only person who had dyno numbers of their car bone stock, and with just GM Stage 1. Some people have GM Stage 1 numbers, but they all had exhaust mods done when they did their dyno runs.
