Fram or supertech oil filter..??
Fram or supertech oil filter..??
went to wallllmmmartt and got valvoline's full synthetic oil and...the only two filters they had available to see which you all would recomend..i've used fram before but not the supertech..frams comes with the rubber ring ..supertech doesn't...fram's filter looks like it has more baffles..and the frams like...an 1/8 inch shorter..any thoughts?suggestions?
goto summitracing.com or jegs.com and get a K&N oil filter they are the nicest ones for our cars. Also use good oil, like royal purple, amsoil, or schaeffer's.....not valvoline or mobil 1 they suck, in friction testing machine my friend bought for his shop mobil 1 and valvoline placed last out of the ones I listed
I know this isn't exactly for cars... but I found this link when I was looking for oil filters for my suzuki gsx-r... its a good read... and I cant imagine they'd make something totally different for a car...

went to oreillys and got a wix...wasn't gonna drive all over town looking for the acdelco one, i've heard good things about wix filters...and these filters...you can pretty much see everything to them since their not in a canister like..my s10 filter....i've pretty much written off using the frams though since seeing and reading on somewhere online..maybe bobistheoilguy site that frams cansiter filters..like on my s10 have a cardboard end piece in them or something..instead of metal like alot of others and the cardboard can break down etc...also, when i changed the oil tonight and pulled the old filter (fram) you could see that the baffles were actually starting to twist...shoulda taken a pic but anyone know what i'm talking bout or seen it before....? the filter wasn't torn apart etc...but you could see and tell that instead of the baffle pieces being vertical with the filter when brand new and not used...it was oilsoaked and you could see the baffles were twisting...kiinda like...tornado effect happening...anyways, also went with the valvoline synthetic oil...hate if ya want but what other oils is guaranteeing motors that use their oil and you can register it online etc...? any..?

Whatever you do dont get FRAM... I have seen alot of them collapse and that means now you have no filtering and that you have parts of the filter lubing your engine instead of oil...

I doubt it gets below -20*f very often where you are at. 5w30 should be fine.
I have about 1/2 a case of Purolator filters still. Been using them on both Cobalts since I first got the case. I'm seeing a problem with them. I only change the oil when the DIC says it is time. Although I'm not seeing any flexing or twisting with the filter on the LSJ, I am seeing it everytime on the LE5. LSJ is modded, LE5 is mostly stock. LE5 only has K&N air filter (not cai). I'm having second thoughts about these Purolator filters and might pickup a case of the AC Delco ones once the Purolators are all used up. Btw, the Purolators where given to me by a friend who has a diesel shop. It was his Purolator sales rep that gave him the filters. I got the box unopened.

Fram filters are terrible, I have heard of them destroying a few LS1/LS2's.
I would use either a M1, Wix, Ac Delco or K&N Oil filter. Right now I am using a Wix Oil Filter.
And I use Royal Purple in the Cobalt since its only 5 Quarts it doesn't break the bank.

Wow never seen so much hate towards Fram. My father has always used Fram, as do I, and we've never had a problem. Of course none of the engines are "high performance" or anything special. Too bad I didn't see this last week I just did my oil.
I am using a Bosch style oil filter made of wood, only one plastic peace and thats to hold it up on the underside of the cap, and i havent had any problems wth it, forget the specific name of it but its mad by Bosch. I also always run Royal Pruple in my car....
