friend bought muffler

my friend purchased a 2.25 inch Magnaflow muffler for his 07 ss/sc

becuase i told him that was the piping size after the rear axle where u cut is this correct or is it 2.5

That's the sizing at the bend by the axle yes, but the SS/SC needs 2.5 piping all the way back to be free flowing.

he doesnt really know much about cars and he bought the 2.25 inch could that clamp on fine? like him and a friend are planing on doinG?? there gonna take the muffler cut the stock one and clamp on the new one

that's a bad idea. to clamp it the right way, the muffler would be OVER the stock pipe. with this size it won't fit. it will have to be welded on to be done right. if you stick the muffler inside the exhaust pipe, you're adding restriction which defeats the point, unless he's doing it strictly for sound. at that point, the best idea is to return the 2.25, get a 2.5, and get a small piece of 2.5 pipe to go over the rear torsion beam.

sounds ghetto fabulous to me. It works in theory, but honestly I don't see any clear answer other than just doing it and praying the new muffler inlet is wider than the outlet and hoping you can clamp it tight enough not to get leak.

should have just gotten a full exhaust. Then all the piping would fit and the place where the DP connects to the exhaust is the only size difference, but that connects with bolts and a gasket, so no sealing issues.
