Actually, it's not too bad at all, especially if you have a lift. I paid a local speed shop like 50 bucks to put on a Cobra HE that they needed to custom make all the lines and mounting brackets.

Not sure if I would say all that. Each has their own pluses. The Cobra HE can be picked up for cheap which is why alot of people like em, the CA HE is a good deal because it comes with everything that you need and is brand new. The Dual Pass is more for making sure that you have an even dispersal of coolant sent to all four cylinders instead of your coolant starting at one end and by the time it hits cylinder 4 the coolant is warm. The Dual Pass makes it so that cylinder 4 gets cooler coolant sent to it.

I gotta agree that traction should be the single most important target for people looking to drop their 1/4 time. Ever notice that all the runs in the 12's have sub 2.xxx 60' times? Hell, if your running a 14.3 with a 2.5xx 60' time, a bunch of traction mods and practice launching that gets your 60' time to around 1.8xx will net you a mid 13 1/4 mile.

Just something to think about, but that is going to be the focus of my buildup.

if you can trap 107 on street tires, you can hit 12's on slicks.

axles are a must, so are drag radials or slicks.

how you get to that 107 is really up to you

im hitting 107 trap speed right now in my car, but my times are 14.2 at best. LOTS of wheel spin, it was also my first time at the track and it was cold. I think theres much room for improvement

SScobaltZ06...You're comparing a 1970's Muscle car that was made of steel, to a 2005-2007 vehicle that is more then half the weight. Losing weight is not a major concern with these vehicles, it's traction. The Cobalt weighs around 2900lbs for cryin out loud. lol...

Look at our trap speeds. High traps, low quarter times, that's because of traction issues not being too heavy.

Yeppers. Take a stock SS/SC, put on solid mounts, torque tamper, strut bars, sway bars, upgraded axles, 16" rims up front with slicks/drag radials. I'm sure there are a few other traction/handling mods I missed. Most here would be surprised at the times that thing would pull.

so even with all my mods and a 2.7" pulley+meth or a 50 shot i cant hit 12's?

Also a friend of mine with mods including:

2.7" pulley
42lb injectors
Cobalt Addiction's flashed pcm
Catback

He ran a 13.4@106.7 with a 2.2 60'
So your telling me with meth or a 50 shot that will not net a 12 seond pass??

12's are very doable in these cars. our cobalts make more hp stock than most the 70's muscle cars did, and our suspensions are alot better, technology has come along way!! i should hit 12's in mine on nitrous with the new pistons

You guys wanna hit a 12 in your Cobalts you will need 330 crank hp mimimum. I dont care if you run a 1.8 60 footer you still aint gonna see a 12 with a stage 2 even with slicks and EVEN with a 50 shot on it, your still gonna need 330hp min with a 3150 lb race weight of the car and driver for a Cobalt and most guys/cars even more than that around 3200 with their fat azzes in it. I know a couple stage 3 guys around here running 50 shots of nitrous with 1.85 60's and they still arent in the 12's even with a 107-108 traps at sea level on a 60 degree day.

Let me know when you do hit a 12 though and lets see what the factors all are including weight and final hp....it will not be with a stage 2 period thats for sure even with a 50 shot. Your gonna have to lose some weight vs trying to make it on available hp achievable on the 2.0.
That's not mathematically possible. You can't run a 107 mph trap with a sub 2 second 0-60 and still run a 13 second quarter mile.

Although I do agree with you that shedding weight is just as important as traction in the end. It's better to start with the traction mods though.
