getting ready to install stage 2...questions...

Ok, so I'm buying my stage 2 in the next couple days (tax return finally, woohoo!!) and I've gone to the dealership to talk about an appointment and cost, etc. My questions are as follows, any help would be appreciated.

First off, they say the labor cost is 'not in their computer' I told them that I knew of people that had it installed for 1.5 hours of labor, and that this was GMs correct labor rate for the stage 2. They won't believe me, and I refuse to pay more. So I'm going to try and get some info proving the labor to them. So does anyone know if there is a web site that would have the labor rate, or a certain dealership that you know charges 1.5 hours that I can call for proof...anything....

Secondly, the kit is not different for 07. Its the re-flash, right? I don't think the dealership quite understands this, so if anyone could explain it to me, so that I can explain it to them, that would be awesome. Any info that I can give them in regards to an 07, or installing the kit in general (I'll be their guinea pig) would help out tons.

Lastly....after the install, would it help my cars performance to get a professional tune? Cause the dealership will reflash, but not tune...right? I can get a decent price on a tune at the college, so I'm going to do that, but only if it'll be worth my time and money by helping my car a bit.

Ok thanks guys, any info you can give me would be helpful.

hmm, alright, how about this: does anyone know the number for the reflash for an 07? Like, the number the tech needs to put in his little machine for it to work.

well, they have to call GM for the flash number, and if you are gonna get a tune anyway, just install the injectors and pully yourself and get the professional tune - skip the trip the the dealer cause the tune will void the warranty ne way

Hey, well since you are a tech...don't the papers only show the # for 05-06? And how can I 'prove' the labor time...cause they are seriously trying to rape me on labor.

If you plan to get the car tuned after you get stage 2 installed, I think you just wasted your money buying the kit! Since your gonna screw ur warranty with the tune, you should have just went aftermarket, and you could have got more power for cheaper then you probably paid for stage 2.

I dont mean to jack ur thread but does anybody know how much time GM designates to do the reflash? I just got quoted 1 hour

Im lookin at the papers right now, and it doesnt say 05 or 06 anywhere, just says its for the SS and the redline.

Well, I didn't know a tune voided the warranty, so in that case...I just won't get a tune. It really shouldn't be too necessary as long as I'm only using a stage 2 pulley on the stage 2 belt.
Ok. I asked about the reflash code on the kit, because the true chevy dealership here has an 07 in their shop that they can't get to run. Reason is because they have a kit that was designed for the 05-06, before 07 was out, and so it only has the reflash codes for 05-06, and they are trying to use those codes. They aren't very smart.

The thing you have to realize man is the reflash is a tune for the stage 2. The relfash tunes for the 42# injectors and new pulley. It runs perfectly fine and adds a nice little kick in your pants...there is no point in having a tune done after stage 2 is installed.

as far as labor times....the reflash is 1 hour. We have to download the info. from the car onto our tech2, then call techline and give them all the information and get the VCI code for the stage 2 reflash.....techline isn't the fastest place in the world sometimes. Then download the program from the pc. onto our tech 2, then dowload it from the tech2 into your car.....then firgure another hour for the r&r of the supercharger then the removal and installation of the pulley which should pay about 1/2 hour and then the fuel injectors which pay about half an hour.....so it really should be a bit over 2 hours labor....but anyways, there you go....have fun with the stage 2, I love mine

I was trying to walk into my stage 2 the same way you were going for the exact 1.5 hours for install and whatnot and you have to give them some space. I got mine installed in 4 hours, which may be a bit high, but they do have to remove the supercharger, then remove the pulley, install new one, run new belt, change injectors, reinstall supercharger, then do reflash, it all takes time and working at a comfortable pace it seems like alot to do in 1.5 hours. Id give them a little space but not too much to be taken advantage of.
The part numbers for the 07 are in the book that comes with the kit, it can also be looked up at the service desk. I have my booklet in the car if you need the number, as mine is an 07 as well. And as stated above a retune like everyone else is saying is pointless if youve already bought stage 2. goodluck though and let us know your results

hey, thanks you guys for your info, and I'll definitely post what happens. I didn't realize there was as much to do as there really is, but I don't want to get taken advantage of. But I'll be going in with a good idea of what should go on, so I feel better about the whole thing.
