Question GM Stage 3 question!

I'm going to install the GM stage 3 PCM tonight or tomorrow.

Should I unhook the battery before removing the Stage 2 PCM to replace it with the Stage 3 PCM?

Or can I just leave the battery alone and swap PCMs? Thanks guys/gals.

Anyone running the stage 3 pcm right now?
I'm just curious as to how it runs. I will find out how rich or lean it's running by tomorrow.

Please let me know how it runs with it. I was thinking about getting it but the no A/C kinda sucks. I guess you could always swap back in the stage 2 computer to get A/C ha ha. How much did you get it for? I want to see if the power increase is worth the 400 bucks for it.

I got if from a member unused for $315.00 so I had to hop on it.

As far as the A/C goes i'm just going to wire up a switch to trigger the A/C clutch when I want to use it.

I'll let you know how it works out.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

Yes there is, you got it. I will have a dry 50 shot hooked up in the spring along with a bigger H/E.

You know it. I will be looking for a little rematch with our friend Slowgto.
He's cool i'm sure he will be down.

The dynos I have seen with a 2.9 and 50 shot look promising. Zinner put down 292whp.

i dont think you're going to get any gains from just the pcm alone, except if you have 100 octane in the tank or a nitrous shot. it's just going to be like stage 2 with an adjustable rev limiter and no a/c

i was answering this post. i assumed he would know what a nitrous power increase was but thought he was referring to just the pcm alone

the ecm has it's own internal battery. it's not going to hurt the car either way. just have the key off.

this is not rocket science.

I will probably just unplug the battery it can't hurt. The battery thing is no biggie. aside from that i'm not expecting anything from the PCM alone. I will be putting it to good use with the dry 50 shot. I may be able to mess around with the 100 octane tune this weekend. I'm also curious to see how lean or rich the car runs with it. Only the wideband will tell. I should have some decent info for you guys in a couple days.

every herd of voltage drop/surge? well that happens when you plug and unplug things that may have some power to them. and seeing as though the PCM controls over 100 sensors, actuators, resistors, and things of that nature.. yeah i'd unplug it. a small surge, and you can kiss the pcm good bye. but gl with the install man! let me know how ya like it, might go that way myself.

hmm odd. you would the same so called "spike" when you hook the terminals back up on the battery. i guess in the 100's of ecm's i have swapped over the years, i have not had one problem.

whatever, in anycase your going to see a spike. but you SHOULD unplug the battery, because that is the smart thing to do. play it safe, dont take chance's. just because you have never had a problem, does not mean that he wont. maybe on other people vehicle's you should do that just to save time, because flat rate hourly and fast times = good pay out. but thats not how I do things.
