Handbreak, garbage. Any ideas how to modify?

As most of you know the hand break on the Cobalt works little at best. It truly is garbage, I am going to be racing in a rally cross series with my 2.0 Cobalt and I need a stronger handbreak. Has anybody attempted to modify their handbreak to make it stronger? If so can you tell me how I can go about this?

The simple answer is, technically you don't, but some people will use it to kick the back end of the car out. Most people just left foot brake.

lol i knew that, using the hand brake seems stupid to use in a rally x.

i have rally x many many times, and am part of a crew that our driver won 1st in modified 2wd last season and neither of us have ever used the hand brake in that car.. hell it doesn't even work..

p/s its also a ice race car.

That'd be fun as hell!!!!!!! I'd never do any of that stuff in a Cobalt though, but I'd love to do it in a beater.

Take the log off and you can tighten it that way but then it makes it hard as hell to pull and doesnt really help, unless your talking about something else?

If you want your handBRAKE to be stronger, I suggest hitting up the gym

Thanks but none of these replys really help. I find it hard to belive that you won't need to use the hand break at least a few times in a rally. A hand break is an essential tool especially for very hard right hand turns where you are not carrying enough speed to swing the car by using the left foot on the break.

rally racing and rally x is 2 different things..

like i have said i have rally x and know many people that do it, a hand brake is not neccesary at all if you know how to drive

i also have crewed for a real rally car, that races competively both locally and nationally

the Mayhem Mustang
rally car's use a hydrolic hand break...you barely have to move them and they lock the back wheels

In a FWD car especially, it typically works better to shift to momentum via left foot braking through a turn to kick the back around. I have quite a few friends who rally-x and I've never seen any of them use the handbrake.

This has still not answered my question. Thanks for the advice otherwise but I still would like to figure out how to add strength to my handbreak.

you don't. you're looking to do it the wrong way. people have given you advice, and things that will work. it's just not what you want to hear, so you keep expecting something different.

the e brake is not the way to go. end of story. people yank the ebrake, then complain when it doesn't work properly? come on man, think about what you're saying.
