This advice still does not add strength to my hand break. I understand what people are saying but it just does not work for me and my experience. My question is simple, "does anybody know how to improve the strength of a Cobalt handbreak"? I had a Civic for many years, the hand break was strong unlike the Cobalt. It actually helped me get out of a few black ice situations in the 10 years I owned this car so in saying this, the hand break "for me" is an important safty feature. Maybe thats why they call it the emergency break. If you want to argue my "personal" preference for the use of the handbreak just think back to the main point of this post "does anybody know how to improve the strength of a Cobalt handbreak"?

ok first off like hack said...twice......hand BRAKE not break , second.. it hasnt been called an emergency brake for quite a while. it is reffered to a parking brake or hand brake but anyway. people have told you how to tighten the cable and thats the only way to "strengthen" it. if you use a 10mm wrench on it and tighten the cable you lock it up easier. believe me thats all you need to do. you will be able to toss the rear around in the dirt without a problem

A good driver does not need a handbrake for rally-x. A good driver will left foot brake and weight transfer if they need a bit of rear end slide.

To whoever said that the handbrake couldn't hold there car at the track, it means your car has to much traction or you don't have enough power to do a burnout.

wait, so if you're on black ice, you intentionally try to lock up the tires and consider that a safety feature? don't take this the wrong way, but learn to drive better and you won't need to be yanking your brakes like that. why not just look into better brakes.

ok well what ur looking for is to make ur brake have more bite.....on the bottom of the handle there is small cut..that is what the cover for the handle locks into...using a screwdriver push it in and while pulling off the cover u will find a piece of threaded rod with a nylock nut...just tighten up that nut till u find it meets ur needs and re-install the cover and ur ready to rock and roll
