Has anyone done this??

Find a dubmass who has totalled his NA SS, take his crank/rods out, swap the pistons from your SC SS, but use the 2.4 crank and rods.... so esentially, you will have a 2.4l with the same compression as the LSJ... No REplacement for DISplacement... Bumping the displacement 20% or so should up the power just a tad...

I doubt anyone has done this. Would you have to adjust your crank position sensor? Or your timing chain that drives your camshafts? I guess start looking for a demolished NA SS!

Wouldn't the bigger crank reduce redline? Thats one aspect that makes this engine great is the 7k+ that you can squeeze out of it. I know when you have a bigger stroke, you have to lower the redline.

maybe a few hundred rpm, but the torque gains would be sufficient enough to make it not need the extra 500rpm. What does the 2.4 redline at? and i know this is apples and oranges, but if a nascar with a 354cid motor can redline at over 10,000rpm, i think our little guys can run 7. You would probably have to change everything off the 2.4 bottom end to the 2.0 stuff, the CPS and timing chain gear, but if LSJ's are anything like small block chevy's, the only difference between longer stroke cranks is the stroke, the crank postition will still be the same. The crank is still going to make 360 degrees per rpm regardless of stroke, so the crank position sensor should be fine.. Guys stroke their LS1-6 motors all the time... id move everything over just to be safe though...

Are the 2.4 rods forged?

I know for 2.2 build ups GM recommends using the 2.0 con rods w/ forged pistons

I'd just hate to see someone go to the trouble of putting in the new crank and having the rods now become a weak point.

very true... hmmm the crank/rods would have to be just as good as the 2.0 ones for this to work... i dont see why they wouldnt be though, the 2.4 is still an SS and GM knows its going to be modded...

I know the crank is no problem. Hell even the 2.2 eco crank is stronger than any of us will likely ever need.

I just didn't know about the rods,,, anyone know on these?
If they are forged then hells yeah I wanna see someone try this, gonna be tough to find a junked 2.4 so early though I bet.

BTW, I love the camaro man, always had a thing for 3rd Gen droptops

Back on topic though, the only other thing I'd be worried about would be valve clearance if we swapped to the 2.4 con rods.

It'd suck to fire it up only have a piston try to send your valves through the hood

As soon as the 2.4 came out I started thinking about frankenECO engines, like an LSJ with the VVT head from the 2.4,, yummy. I don't think the 2.4 head is as strong as the sand cast 2.0 heads though, anyone?

I'm sure it's only a matter of time though til we start seeing people attempting crazy stuff

OUCH!!! Mine decided to overheat on the way to arizona and i lost a valve, two days prior to that a pole jumped out and dented the crap out of my fender... the top is completely destroyed... its got a lot of work that needs to be done... lol My cobalt is for beating honda's and subaru's..... my camaro (when its fixed) is for running 12's.... lol I still love the camaro more than the cobalt, i dunno why... its just got this something... I think its called 8 cylinders of american muscle... lol. Still the cobalt gets CRAZY props... I dig the hell out of this car...
