question on stage 2 and the gapping of the NGK?

ok i am looking into getting the stage 2, 2.8 pulley and the NGK spark plugs but what is the deal with the 0.35 setting how do i get it gapped or do i need it gapped at this rate? just wondering if i get the irridiums stock is that ok or do i need to gap them at 0.35.

hope to hear some feedback,

thanks

i have stage2 with 2.8 and bkr7e gapped at.040, works great. and you need a gap tool to gap them.

get the regular copper plugs BKR7E - and gap them at .040"

Exactly and stay away from irridium plugs.

Im looking at doing some small upgrades to my SS. I was checking out these NGK Plugs you all keep talking about. On the NGK Site, it doesn't list the BRK7E for the Cobalt SS. Instead they list BRK6E for the Supercharged 2.0. Whats wrong with the iridium? What about the platinum?

I don't have the Stage 2 yet, but its coming soon with this years tax refund. Should I hold off till I get the Stage 2?

The BKR7E is one step colder, which is why it is not listed since it is not the "stock" plug. I suppose you could use one step colder platinum if you wanted, but everyone seems to get the best performance out of the copper plugs.

I'm not 100% sure on why iridium plugs are not favored, but I believe it has to do with the fact that the iridium core causes the tip of the plug to burn hotter then copper or platinum which could offset the entire purpose of going one step colder to reduce the combustion chamber temperature during high compression.

There isn't any reason to run one step colder plugs until you have Stage 2 with the 2.8" pulley installed. It could actually cause fuel not to be burned completely and cause problems with exhaust and fouled plugs.

Thanks for the input guys! I was on that exact link and I looked at the related applications; since I didn't see the Cobalt on there, it made me wonder. Makes sense though with the one step colder. I really appreciate it.

When I do my Stage 2 upgrade, I'm just going to stay with the kit supplied pulley (3.5 to 3.0 I believe) since I want to keep everything under warranty. Got the extended one at the GM employee price, hehe!
