Question HPT & Trifecta Tuning Help Needed

My car is currently running GM Stage 2 with a few bolt ons that are in my sig. Last week I meet up with a local member who is parting out his balt. I picked up his 60lb injectors, harness and 2.8" pulley. There isn't really anyone in my area or even close by at all to tune my balt with hpt for the 60lb injectors and pulley. There Is a local Trifecta dealere who tells me he can tune my car for the Injectors and 2.8" pulley no problem.

But, the local member I bought the parts from also says he has Hpt he can sell me if I want to pick it up. He says he can then send me the Ottp canned tune he has to start me off to run the injectors and smaller pulley. Will the OTTP canned tune work on my car? Or is it like the second ecu he has from ottp that is vin specific ?? will the canned tune be vin specific also ?

Or should I just go the Trifecta route and not worry about getting into hpt myself ? I'm just looking to see what you guys would do ?

Thanks...

should just rewrite onto yours, no problem. but then the question is, did he have the same mods as you, for the tune not to be off at first. until the tune is updated. now if you put his ecu in, youd need to change the vin to yours.

If these are your only two options then the Trifecta tuner is the way to go. Just getting your hptuners setup for the histos, tables, graphs takes sometime. Then understanding what tables you need to change is a different story. There is a ton of good help online as well.

Other option is to buy hptuners and get help from the forum members. Tons of members have different tunes saved from canned tunes to custom tuners. If you had the software yourself you could upload the tunes yourself log it and get help from members.

I personally got both, I am custom tuned and also own hptuners. I got the best of both worlds. I can send my tuner logs and get updates to my tune as we see fit. I have gotten to see whats been done over time and picked up on a bunch as well. Also screwed up a few things on my tune in the process though.

I can pick up hpt from a local member. If I did is the OTTP canned tune vin specific also ?? Or would I be able to change the vin in hpt if I bought the program ?

And, if I did go thr trifecta route. Are there tunes able to be customized once installed ?

I believe you can write his file to yours ecu. Once its written do a read entire and the new file you read should have your vin on it. Believe you have to write that file back. Not 100 sure so wait for someone else to chime in on this one. Even canned tunes are sometimes slightly tweaked depending on what the customer has on his car.

There is also a tune repository where members have downloaded their stock and tweaked tunes. There are a good amounts of tables changes going to 60's as well not your walk in the park for someone who just opens it up.

You could also open both files and compare them and do a copy all differences to your tune and then write calibrations to your ecu.

Believe you can also just change a vin on a file.

Sure some other members will chime in on this one.

you will have to pull the tune from your car, license the VIN($100 in hptuners credits), copy over all the tables from the ott can tune into your tune and write the calibration

Ask him what year he has and if he licensed his year or not. I can touch any 06 for free but have to pay 100 to unlock anything else. You need to credits per vehicle or 6 to unlock an entire year. Might get lucky to the point where your year and his matches. If not you will need to buy credits as well

His car is an 07. My car is an 06. So I would have to buy just one credit ? ( $100 ). Where do you but the credits at fro hpt ? And how do you pay for them ? I don't have a credit card at the moment.

I only licensed my car, not every 2007. There the only credits I have used, im not sure if there would be enough there to license another car or if you would have to purchase them.

I guess i'm alittle confused. So ( Zigitty ) is the member I will be buying hpt from. If he bought the program and only unlocked his ecu. And it came with eight credits. Should there be any credits left ? Enough to unlock my ecu ? And are they tranferable to another user when they but the program used ? If not, where do you get the credits from ?

If you have this much confusion over the hptuners credits I think you should just take the easy way out and get the trifecta tune.

I'm only alittle conufesd because nobody seems to have the answers. Not even the previous owner seems to know. I can handle learning how to install a cannede tune. I just want to know what its gonna cost if anything before I get myself into it. But no one has a direct and clear answer. So I'll ask you... sense you seem to know??

Ok that hp tuners should have credits on it. It comes from the factory with 10 free. It takes 2 credits for every SS/SC (and most other cars) to licence a vin number. you must have the licence for the vin of the car you are flashing and the vin of the tune (if its different). If you dont have credits you can purchase them from hp-tuners for $50 a piece. Make sure the previous owner transfers you the account number and code to get into the hpt account (they should have gotten an email when they bought the unit).

The easiest way to get that canned tune onto your car is this. Do a read entire of your car and license the vin. Open it in the editor, open the canned tune for comparison (it will be a menu option to open a file for comparison). Then copy all fields from the canned tun to your tune and then just do a standard write data (not write entire).

Thank you very much. Thats the kind of advise I was looking for. That answered alot of my questions. Now I just need to decide if I'm gonna run the 2.8" pulley or 2.9" ? Any suggestions guys ?

Dont think they raised it. You get 8 credits to start 6 credits per year and two per single car. Credits cost just under 50 a piece.
