Help - Buying SS/SC Tomorrow!

Hey guys.

So I'm in the middle of the buying process for the Cobalt SS/SC. I told the sales rep. I wanted a red one with red/black inserts, sunroof, and the G85 package. I also told him I want the stage 2 installed along with GMPP Performance Exhaust in addition to the GM Extrude Honed Manifold. BTW, the total quoted price including these parts installed was quoted at $23,450.

Anyway, he found one at a dealer which is 5 hours away round trip and said it wouldn't arrive until later this evening. Me and a buddy of mine went over later tonight to see if it was there. We found the car sitting in the lot...and it doesn't have the big wing spoiler Don't these models come standard with that big spoiler???

A lot of people on here dislike the wing, but I think it defines the car otherwise, it's a normal Cobalt. I HAVE to have the wing on there...I saw another red SS/SC in the lot with the ring. Is it possible for them to swap out the trunks in order to get the wing? I didn't look closely enough to see if there was a key lock on the trunk either...I'm guessing that should be transferable as well...

What do you guys think?

Also wanted to add I wanted the graphite colored rims but they aren't available for the 07? The only one I can get is the brushed aluminum which looks awful. Maybe I should give it a chance before powder coating?

Here's the thing...I haven't bought the car yet, so I don't think they will charge me for it. If they were to try I'd walk.

How does the trunk work? Is there a key insert or is there a button release?

07's don't come with the different seats. They were taken out in mid to late 06

Also, the dealership won't be able to swap the wings or decks. The car has to be delivered with everything on the window sticker, on the car. That means they can add stuff on, but they can't take stuff off. They could argue for yours, but they'd be screwed down the line regarding the one they took the SS/SC wing off of.

I would recommend taking the one they located and dealing later on to get a wing or trunk swap...

they cannot swap the deck lids, the VIN on the car shows whether or not it has the aero wing. The only possible way would be to take it off of a used ss/sc if they have one, or two order it from the parts department prior to deliver. The spoiler, intalled by the dealer and pre-painted is $573.20. The part # is 12499804. Otherwise, hang out in the deck lid swap thread, I know there are always people that want to get rid of the big wing. Hope this helped.

Well your out of luck on the wheels. As far as the wing goes it is interchangeable I have done it myself. There are 4 bolts that go through the trunk lid plus a nice amount of nasty 3M adhesive that is not fun to mess with.

I doubt the dealer is going to swap it so easy unless they are nice considering they offer the spoiler as an accesory and it is way overpriced but it is worth a shot.

Good news for you if you do decide to swap since you already have the small one moving to the big one will not leave any adhesive marks on the trunk. The big spoiler has a much larger footprint on the trunk than the smaller one so moving from small to big will cover up all of the old adhesive and you wont have to worry about getting it all off.

You may also want to ride in one with the big spoiler, it is right in the middle of the rearview and is kind of a pain. But if you gotta have it, you gotta have it, hope this helps

For those of you saying dealers cant take things off one car and put them on another, your crazy. I work at a GM dealership and we do it ALL THE TIME! We have in fact taken the big spolier off of a SS/SC and changed it with another SS/SC that had the aero wing. We have taken 100's of sets of wheels off of tahoes and put them on other tahoes that didnt have the factory 20's. The dealer should not make a big deal out of this at all, if they do go some place else.

WRONG.
it is common practice here in kc to do that. there is a handful of css/sc cars running around without a spoiler.
if they want to sell the car, they will deal.

i would DEFINATELY NOT DO THIS , you havent even bought the car yet and you already have to worry about swapping wings , **** that whats the point of buying something and altering it , when you could have just bought it like that in the first place, alot of extra hassle in my opinion

biggest waste of 573.20 in my opinion

The wing is so useless and overrated. Wait till you try to figure out if its a cop behind you at night and see how much you like the wing then.

My advice learn some patience and find the car with the options you want.
