Help - Buying SS/SC Tomorrow!
or just buy the car with the low wing and take it of f
If a cop is behind you in the dark without his lights on, you wont know until its too late.
I got the bolts undone, and tried to pull the wing off. No good!
I remember a member on here unbolted theirs and drove at about 70mph, and couldnt get it to come off.
Thats some serious glue they use!
For those of you saying dealers cant take things off one car and put them on another, your crazy. I work at a GM dealership and we do it ALL THE TIME! We have in fact taken the big spolier off of a SS/SC and changed it with another SS/SC that had the aero wing. We have taken 100's of sets of wheels off of tahoes and put them on other tahoes that didnt have the factory 20's. The dealer should not make a big deal out of this at all, if they do go some place else.

Just because your dealership does something doesn't mean it's okay. I also worked for a GM Dealership and you can ask GM directly, dealerships are not allowed to deliver a vehicle w/o all OEM equipment listed on the window sticker installed. Good for your dealership to wheel and deal, but if they got caught, they're in trouble. It's a legal issue.
Once again, just because a dealership does something, doesn't mean it's approved by GM.
i would DEFINATELY NOT DO THIS , you havent even bought the car yet and you already have to worry about swapping wings , **** that whats the point of buying something and altering it , when you could have just bought it like that in the first place, alot of extra hassle in my opinion
biggest waste of 573.20 in my opinion
see i thought it was bolts , theres no way just adhesive can keep that wing on

Where do you get off bitching and moaning about "not even buying a car yet and having to worry about swapping wings?" Whah! This is a car enthusiast's forum. People are on here to learn about "modifying" their cars. If he's buying it to keep it stock then he really isn't going to get much out of this site. You're just arguing because you like to Red...
X3145334576 on that one. We had three people pulling on that thing and still couldnt get it. We had to use heat and shims to cut the adhesive. There is no doubt in my mind that thing would stay on with just adhesive at 100+ mph.
Wrong

It was Sunday morning around 11. Goin under the overpass for I-90 right off U Albany's campus. I'm not that familiar with the area so I can't give you a street name. I was in my GFs car and we were going to staples.
then tell me it's useless.
The wing is not designed to do anything but look appealing to young people who think it actually does anything in terms of adding downforce.
Take an areodynamics course and then tell me what you think
u can order a wing in for an extra like 600 i believe.. you just wont have the wing right away as it needs to be brought in a painted... then they will need your car for a day to install it for u...
i did it with my first Ion 3.. they traded me spoilers plus cash on my side added on my total price of teh car..

I'm not sure how much useful info this will be, but I just thought the threadstarter would like to know that the '07 'balts can come in many different variations. Like: small or big spoiler(big spoiler is extra$$), g85 or just the recaros or just the LSD.
Hey guys...I'm back from the dealer finally. The sale rep said he's going to swap out the spoiler without any problem (no additional charge). I won't be able to get the spoiler installed until they have all the other after market parts in stock (exhaust, manifold, and stage 2). He told me they should have it in by the end of the week and get it installed by Tuesday.
I'll be picking up the car within the next few hours. If you guys want I can take pics of the car with the low spoiler.
BTW, my car DOES have the G85 package and I have black/red inserts for the leather. It's an 07.

Anyone with any sense would realize that a wing that starts flexing in the wind while going ~30 mph is not helping what-so-ever.

with the RAAF, Aeronautical engineering actually.
and if you dont know what your talking about you shouldnt pretend you do.
Have you ever flown in a plane?
ever seen a plane with wings that dont "start flexing"
me either....cuz they crash.
Im curious....who taught you that "stiffness" or "resistance to flexing" was an indication of effective lift? (or downforce in this instance)

Well to make the point.. GM has not offered us any information on the wing development.
Being an aeronautics engineer you know that the wing design as well as the air flow past the wing is critical for generating downforce. We may know the shape of the wing but we do not know the exact flow field around the wing.
Also, having the wing flutter around means it is not stiff (this we agree upon). However, with a non-rigid wing, the nominal amount of deflection would indicate the downward force that the wing is applying to the trunklid. If the nominal position of the wing in a 0mph wind is the same as an 80mph wind, it would mean that there is no effective 'lift' or 'downforce' acting on that "non-rigid' wing.
Experiment: find a way to accurately measure distance from the trunklid to bottom of the wing. Press down or apply evenly distributed load (bags of sand, etc..) to the wing and measure its new position. You will then realize what its 'spring rate' is. Now go find a way to check deflection while driving. Compare reults back to your inital test results... now you can see approximately how much downforce you are seeing. (also, if your an engineer.. go find some strain gauges...)
