Higher Octane Fuel

i hear people talking about running 100 octane and above "race" gas in their cobalt, but i was wondering if the fact that most high octane fuels are leaded will cause any problems with the car?

Any good gas i can buy around here is either 110, or 114 octane, but i know is leaded. Anybody have any experience running leaded fuel, did it cause any problems with the cat or oxygen sensor? or anything else?

Dont run leaded

sensors + cat go bubbye.

you can get unleaded race fuels.
but you have to be tuned for it...or its a waste. and will hurt performance more than help

yeah my mustang ran better on 87 than 93 so im familiar with the whole higher octane can be a waste thing, and im not even tuned for race gas but i was wondering if they sold high octane gas that wasnt leaded.

if you run leaded gas you cant have a cat on casue it well melt it and as for the o2 it well just wear them out fast but i wouldnt see why a run or two would hurt just over time the o2 get a hard core carbon build up

hell, I ran leaded fuel and the car ran great...then I put in 93 and it ran like ****. I had to replace both o2 sensors . Stick with the unleaded fuel, fewer issues.

a little more timing, a little more power. more timing=more power if used correctly

Leaded gas was good for cars back a while ago. The lead would actually help lubricate valves. Now that you cant run leaded anymore, manufacturers have developed new ways to lubricate the valve train be it different metal alloys n stuff like that. I believe that if you run leaded now it will eventually do harm to the valve train due to the lead build up on them.
