WTF im sry i didnt realize that you were concered with gas mileage lol. besides rwd is alot more fun. burn outs, donuts, corners. chevy should have made the cobalt rwd to begin with. then all of us would have been alot happier. and people wouldnt take us so lightly
if you do a 2.8 and 42's it is highly advised that you get meth/water injection. im one of the few that has 42's with an idc below 100%. well that is till i run to 7300. anyways. if you can find someone who knows what they are doing, instead of just punchin in numbers and sending you on your way. you will be good. someone who will tweak the maf tables, fine tune the timing tables, fuel tables, so on and so forth. you will be better off in the end. the person with the laptop controls your power.
Rods are good to around 400 crank hp.
Crankshaft is good to 550 crank hp.
I don't think the rods have been tested yet because everyone who popped a piston has replaced the rods at the same time.
The crankshaft rating is GM's rating, which has not been tested outside of a lab.
A good way to improve the strength and hp limit of the crankshaft is to knife edge it, and cryo freeze it. Doing that will allow the crank to last a long time at 650 crank horsepower.
But when approaching the 600 crank hp mark it is recommended that the block be drilled and tapped for sandwich bolts. Or just purchasing the GM 2.16L racing block.
So you are saying tha the stock LSJ rods support more power than the Eagle rods huh?
Talk about doing your research.
And the crank has been tested to 550hp, and that is it.
That is why the build book recommends replacing with the Eagle crankshaft at that point.
I read the book, did you?
And there you have it ladies and gents, more green boxes does not mean more knowledge.

Just like the injectors can't handle over 240 whp (which they do I am proof)... There are soo many variables with these cars there is no END ALL book or pamphlet that can give exacts, the GM build book is just telling you what "THEY" did...
I'm not trying to argue I will never find the limits of the internals because I have no desire to get that high!

Okay, go ahead and try to get 550 chp out of the stock LSJ rods. And I really want to see someone try to get 750 chp out of the stock crank. Make sure to let me know when you give it gas the first time. You won't even be 1/2 throttle when the crank will snap in half. Sorry, but I am gonna trust some guys that do this for a living, and have unlimited budgets. Like my friend Tom Shaumbaugh. For those of you who don't know, he races his ecotec driven cavi for GM.
Oh, and I have. I don't suggest it for street driven cars. But Blown4 banger is doing it no matter what people tell him.
I was just throwing him out there cuz he is gonna street drive it, and we will all see the drivability of that thing go out the window.
Don't get me wrong, I would never do it on a daily driver.

Tell me, how long before they break down the motor and rebuild?

ah well. to each their own. id do a crank scraper before i did a knifed cranked.
No the vibes arent that bad. Trust me thought once you get them in you are going to fall in love with them. I honestly dont remeber ever having wheel hop with them.
in all seriousness, that's why i have new parts delivered to the office

after tightening the ingalls last night i was actually able to use the gas in 1st, and hear some boost without feeling like my head was getting torn off from wheel hop.
convinced me. you bitch. i pass total blame to you. expect a cranky call from the gf

i can hammer it in first. spin. smoke. hit second fast, spin, spin, spin, even more smoke rolling down the side of the car. no wheel up. this is also on brushed concrete.
