Hitting redline/fuel cut question.

I notice that while shifting through gears really fast I sometimes bounce off the redline and I just want to know if this is bad for the engine?

I usually do this a few times a week.

i wouldn't recommend bouncing off it..if you know the redline is 6500 it will pull at 6300 i believe. so just get good at shifting just a hair b4 and u will be fine...

The computer is specifically protecting your engine by cutting fuel. It's not a problem to bounce off the limiter, but you shouldn't hold it there for any longer then you need to.

Bouncing off of the rev limiter too often can hurt things cant it? At any rate, its not something that I would suggest. I've done it like twice since I got the balt.

Bouncing off the rev limiter is ok. Holding it on the limiter is not.

As your car starts making more power with mods, try to stay away from the rev limiter. These cars use "fuel cut" rev limiters and can cause damage especially on a boosted engine. In stock form damage shouldn't be done unless it held against the limiter, but once the car starts making significant power over stock, you either should be staying away from it or convert to a spark based rev limiter.

I thought they would have used spark cut vs. fuel, since it is a boosted engine.

Fuel cut is def. not good to be pegging off of.

I was surprised myself to see that the first time I looked at an LSJ file. I was pondering the thought of using the supercharger's desired torque setting to act as a spark cut rev limiter.

Like the other guys said, for the most part you're ok bouncing off the limiter once or twice, since it's there to protect you.

But in the words of Vincent Vega, "Just know, it's ******' dangerous to be drivin' a race car when it's in the red. It could blow."

I'm almost positive they use spark cut, cause otherwise people wouldn't spit flames then they bounce it off it.

Wow, that is very suprising. I would've bet money on a spark rev limiter.

Edit: I wonder if maybe it's possible that when some of these guys get their car tuned that the person doing it does not know that the revlimit is fuel cut and does not adjust this along with everything else. What do you think?

In that screenshot I provided above, change the Hyst (Gear) and Hyst (P/N) values to real low numbers and it should do the same thing.
