haha, its for like someone selling the block. they say long block if theyre selling the head and block. or short block just for the block.

long block: complete engine
short block: everything below the head(minus drive accessories eg. alt, ac condensor etc)
bare block: block only

thats how i see it though, im sure u can find the officialy definition if you google search
