How long did Intercooler Pump work after banging on it to refresh it?

Hi all,
As the title says, I had a stuck intercooler pump on my LSJ, banged it with a hammer a few times, it's back to working great.

Now, I've gone out and bought a replacement pump already (the Bosch one), I'm just writing to see if this bandaid fix will last a while, or if I should jack the car up tonight and get the new pump in?

I'd like to wait a week or two before installing the new pump, conditions aren't great for swapping pumps right now. This being said, what was your experience? How long did the pump work after banging on it with a hammer?

Thanks a lot!

you really gotta use your man strength. pretend your in bed at night while laying under the car...use a vise grips to hold the clip at open so your hands are free. then grab your hose and pull wealllly hard while rotating your hose. after many yanks and tugs you should succeed in getting off..it off. lol. but for real make sure you got a small bucket ready. once you get the hoses off its cake, two bolts and a wire hookup.

Yea, pump already failed again, so it's new pump install time! The clamps are a massive pain in the ****. I just went and bought a set of vice grips to keep the stupid clamp open, I had to grind the clamps off when I did my front mount H/E, I hope this time I can get the clamp off properly!!

You're talking to someone who's 6'1", 280 LBS. with a 54 inch chest and a 400 LBS.+ bench.

The clips I had to grind off, had to be ground off, they were ON LIKE A ****. I bent a pair of pliers trying to get them off! Don't tell me this is about being wussy.

If I had a lift, things would be different, but try applying your full strength under the car in an awkward position.

Then you should be able to get off the clamp.....it was a joke, if you want advice from people don't post your "body stat's".

Every stage kit I have done this year (8 so far) has required the pump to be replaced so its an extremely common thing to go wrong.

So you call me out for being a wuss, I rebutt you, and then you complain about me rebutting your original assertion. Pfff, ever heard of logic?

Oh yea, and guess what, not all clamps are exactly the same on all cars. I didn't ask you for advice, I wouldn't want your advice. I asked for people who had a difficult time taking it off what they did, not those who are obviously super-humans like yourself and find it to be "a joke".

Troll.

the clamps don't need to come totally off, just clamp a vice grip on it to keep it open then pull on the hose. the hose is what is stuck onto the connector. they are quite a PITA to get off but once you do they go back on fairly easy. you complete this task yet or what?

Ok, I think I get why I found this so hard the first time. I thought the clamp was causing the hose to stay on. I agree the hoses need to be ripped off with a bit of force (yes, that was the easy part). Previously, I though the clamp had to come fully off, THANK YOU, now I bet this IS easy.

Ok, so let me clarify, I now understand where the guy razzing me is coming from. I get your point, it was just a misunderstanding.

So, in the future, vice grips on the clamp, clamp doesn't need to come fully off the hose, got it!

put a pic or a small screwdriver in between the hose and the nipple with the clamp released, and spray a little silicone in there. then rotate the hose and off.
a cable hose clamp tool is really good.

Thanks again for the pro tips, that's a good one, I'll definitely be using some silicone to loosen up the hose!

Ok, cease fire is good to go It's hard to tell if someone is joking or trolling when they post in text ya know? I'd keep on joking, but throw in an emoticon or something so I know it's a joke

Cheers

Done! Here's a trick I used, because taking the hose off the IC pump from below the car was a bitch. The horizontal hose was not a problem as it had an easy to release hose clamp and wasn't seized from heat, I had replaced the stock hose when I changed my H/E last week. The stock one remaining, the one that's vertical, was the problem hose. I was able to pull the pump up through the engine bay, allowing me to take the hose off from the top of the car, which is MUCH easier. I used the tip above to get some lubricant into the hose, and then I twisted the pump off with vice grips holding the stock clamp fully open.

After the pump was disconnected, I snaked the hose back down to the stock spot, and pushed the new pump into it from below the car. Make sure when you do this that there's no kinks in the hose. Voila!

just wanted to remind everyone that there is a "How To" thread on here about how to rebuild the IC pump that went bad, as long as you got some soldering skills you should be able to repair the old IC for when the new one goes bad.
