How much power can LSJ take?
Wondering if anyone is at 350whp on stock internals? Or does anyone know what power levels the LSJ engine begins to break at? All help and input is appreciated

Talk to Kennyspec on here. Or check out his project in the advanced mod section. He is a buddy of mine. Ripped out his supercharger and made his own turbo kit. Laid down 361whp just before winter. Has dyno numbers in his thread to prove it. Been running his kit for 2 seasons now, stock internals. No problems at all. BUT he did put another motor in it because it was low on compression. He stuffed an even bigger turbo in it this year and so far so good.

there are those miracle motors. i had to have been around 335-345whp on my 100 shot set-up. area47 was pushing 360's on stock block. another member darkmanx is pushing 373whp on stock block. 06black at one point made 484whp on stock internals. 06blackg85ss made 441whp on stock internals. it really comes down to the tune and how hard the car is driven.

Appreciate it man, just got it this morning from dreckte
dannysauer from DFWgmElite just had piston/sleeve failure at 256whp, same tune for over 2 years, pleanty of cooling mods
so it depends
TVS will be arriving in a couple of weeks, hope she holds together until i can install these

There's alot of variables to determine how much power the lsj can handle in stock form I don't think you can say this component will fail at this amount of hp. The M62 cars that are pushed really hard seem to fail easier than tvs powered cars and the turbo cars seem to be able to handle more than the TVS. ZZP has ran alot of cars to the max on stock components on alot of cars they simply change the valve springs to handle the added boost

i agree with the first part, but alot has to do with the tune and how hard the car is driven like blazin said, I have heard of people lifting there heads with 250 wheel, but I have been making 17 psi for a year and mine headgasket is fine. basically a good tune and not driving your cobalt like a racecar driver and the stock motor it pretty stout

If you're measuring at the wheels, your WHP limit will be lower with a supercharger than with a turbo. A lot of the big numbers you're seeing on the LSJ block are from people with turbo swaps.

417whp here now. I've been over 350whp for 6 months and over 300whp for years. That's all with a stock original block and head gasket with almost 70k on it now.
It can take a lot with a turbo swap. The old standard was 300whp and it's on the edge, but I think with a good tune 400whp is the new edge.

Some of the best tuning experts out there will say any factory engine can take almost anything you can throw at it, within reason. aka your valve springs can only hold so much pressure. But the physical internals are only really pushed if the tune pushes them. I'm sure with the right setup the LSJ could see 500 whp on stock block, but it would take a lot of trial and error on which parts to use to get there safely, and even then, it could be bad.

I appreciate all the input guys. I'm having ZZP max my whp at 350 to be on the safe side. With the boost controller that comes with the Twincharge kit, I'll be able to go from a minimum of 300whp to 350 max. The psi levels are going to be 17, so hopefully it will be ok.
This is going to be my DD (very fast DD) so I'm definitely not going to go Nascar driving everywhere =)
