hp tuners
The software comes with no tunes. The serial number you get with the software package gives you access to HP Tuners' tune repository on their website. There are several LSJ tunes and a listing of what the tunes are for (stock, 2.8/60's/DP, etc.).
The first thing you do is read your current tune out of the car, then you can compare the differences between that and the tunes in their repository to figure out what you need to change.
I would still highly recommend spending a good few days researching tuning before playing with your cars tune though.
repository tunes are unsecured and can screw you up if you dont know what you are looking for. I have read for weeks on tuning and still dont trust myself. Get the software for small changes like tire sizes, removing evap, editing stuff out for your build, etc. but when it comes to tuning let a pro do it. logging is what its best for if you are new to tuning.
^this, and here is a writeup for lsjs

I did recommend reading up for a good while. I researched tuning for months before tackling it on my car. Even then I didn't have a good idea what I was doing when I started. At some point your going to have to bite the bullet and start changing numbers though. In my mind why would you pay all the money for HP tuners and then pay someone else more money so they can use *their* HP tuners to tune your car? Yes, you may mess something up, but the same can be said for in-properly installing aftermarket parts.
As far as pro v.s. standard I got pro. Yes you can tap the AC line to log wide-band however as mrbelvedere mentioned, your messing with the wiring harness. Also what if you want to log in an EGT sensor or any other sensor? Pro gives you the ability to do all of this painlessly. Besides...it's just money
tuning isnt hard. theres lots of info on hpt forum & rlf. its easiest to play around with your tune when the car is stock to gain a general understanding and if you have issues when tinkering, just flash back to the stock file. and when you buy a stage kit, have zzp email you the tune file. then you dont have to deal with sending off a pcm or paying 200$ for a new one. if you look at it that way, hpt practically pays for itself.
^ i know exactly whatcha mean, that works too,i personally didnt mess with the pcm harness as getting that plug was much easier for me lol. One thing is to keep in mind is that you want to turn off the ac function in hpt the fan speed vs ac voltage i believe thats what its called " dont have hpt available atm lol " as the fan will kick off annoyngligy preventing the car from being at optimal temp. And I wouldn't use the ac or the rear defroster during that session either
