I wouldn't say you found it... many of us have looked at it before... I considered the swap once before. IIRC, the spline count on the Input shaft is different from that of the F35... but you'd just need to get a custom clutch made, or buy a clutch made for the 9-3.

It sounds like a good idea. But, I would imagine the big power guys would be wary of going with a transmission with questionable strength.

Welcome to two years ago.

It's been done... it works... it's not a direct bolt up.

Why is everyone obsessed with a 6 speed that has two overdrives?

Fixed that up for you....

And I don't know why. It just makes the first three gears that much more useless.

The F40 is rated for more torque than the F35.

With the Saab Bellhousing, it is a direct bolt-on. With the Pontiac Bellhousing, it is not a direct bolt-on. I also know that the Pontiac F40 has a different spline count than the F35 that we use. I'm not sure if the Saab is the same or not though, but I'd imagine it shares the same spline count as the Pontiac F40... meaning you'd need a different clutch.

I wasn't talking about the bellhousing... it's well known that the F40 is a direct bolt on to the engine... but it's the rest of the stuff that needs some finesse.

Okay... I get what you're saying now. I thought you were implying that it didn't bolt-on to the car directly.

Oh, yeah... not what I meant at all.
The clutch / flywheel is the biggest issue. Unless you want to go with Spec, you'd have to get a flywheel custom ground, and your choice of clutch. As well, the cables need a bit of custom modding.... and then there is putting new connectors on some of the trans sensor plugs.
Just little things, that don't make it a true 'bolt-in' item.

F35 has 2, iirc. Reverse and Speed Sensor. I think the person that I know doing the swap said that the sensors on his Pontiac F40 w/ Saab Belhousing are the same as on his LSJ's F35.

It may be rated for more but the F35 clearly performs beyond it rating. I'm not saying that the f40 wouldn't hold up, I'm just saying it would suck to swap and have a glass transmission.
