I think something broke...

i was merging onto a highway in 2nd gear and got on it. around 5500 rpms it missed HARD, tach dropped to 3500 and went back up, and then the car smelled like rotten ass. now it has a fucked up idle (sounds like it studders and pops at idle) and i noticed this oil on the side of my head, right underneath the evap solenoid.

any ideas on wtf is wrong with my car?

Jim? you still alive? lol we havent heard from you in a while

i doubt its tune related. and definitely not boost related since i am using a stage 2 pulley and running like 14-15 psi while using 60# injectors Im thinking either blown gasket, or messed up cat.

other mods include CA header and zzp downpipe with cat converter.

i scare myself sometimes

headgasket.

My mother in laws Mazda Tribute did the same thing. Although her's wasn't horrible and it would drive fine after about 2 minutes of warming the motor up.

When the motor was cold, it idled horridly and bucked like a bull.

FYI, my car had a leak in that same spot. Was just a bad seal.

Yours could be a bad head gasket, check if the oil is fresh.

Bik, read that plug near the leak.
Check for oil around the plug, carbon build up, loss of anti freeze...etc.
I wouldn't run it much until you make sure you didn't lose a ring.
keep us posted.

i pulled the cat, its fine. going to do a compression test tomorrow, but i highly doubt i blew out a ring. no wrx idle, no smoke. it runs fine other than when it choked hard.
I'm leaning toward blown gasket. oil and coolant look perfect though... Idk maybe the car just hates life and is being retarded.

yeah all that oil sludge draining down the side and all over tells me a head gasket, and just the way u said it dropped so fast in rpms and what not, I would bet its a head gasket, which is a easy fix, as long as u dont pro long the situation, cause then u could lead to well, blown motor ;( but heck even if it is the gasket clean it off real good, and get u some heavy duty head studs, and a cometic head gasket and ur set ;P Beast of luck to u, peace!

Have you checked the plugs to see if there is any trace of oil or coolant on them? Is it still running funny other than the first time you felt it?

That oil leaking isn't from a bad head gasket.

runs great. made 2 second gear wide open pulls. only thing i notice is a rich idle (13.9ish) and slightly lumpy idle (no fluctuation). i'll go pull the plugs tonight. i had them out last week for a seasonal check and they were all perfect...
The oil is well above the head gasket. if anything its the valve cover gasket. I still dont know how that would cause my idle to be weird and rich, or a miss under w0t.

It may could change the oil pressure and that is what effects the idle or cause the computer to. Maybe
