Idk what to do..couple problems here

Well,Ive had my balt for almost a year. It has a stage two pulley,AEM cold air intake and a 3" Tsudo catback on it. I did NO engine mods to the car at all. Well,it was running good for 4-5months,then i got a CEL and it started to sputter in fifth gear (crusing). The CEL is a rich code,i have no idea where to even start especially with the sputtering. The previous owner is a buddy of mine and he said it started to sputter after installing the oiled AEM filter. So,im thinking maybe he oiled it too much and its on the MAF causing it to run rich? But idk,plz help me out fellas. Oh and my MPG says 17MPG

Cant run oiled filters on cars with MAFs. It will need to be cleaned after you get rid of the filter.

That's just bad advice before my edits. A large number of of us are running oiled K+N or similar air filters with cars that have MAFs. Mine has 25k on it, has been serviced, with no issues. An oiled filter is not a problem. An incorrectly serviced or overly oiled filter is a problem.

Well,my car has 55,553 on it as we speak. Ive done regular maint. to it. So i should replace the filter andf clean MAF sensor and see if it clear up? That would cause it to run rich and sputter also?

Get some maf cleaner, clean it up. Make sure the AEM isn't soaking wet, covered in snow, overly oiled, or really dirty. You can buy a K+N recharge kit at O'reillys. It'll also work on the AEM element if I remember right. Wash it. DRY it completely. COMPLETELY. The lightly oil it. It doesn't make much at all.

Where you live right now you've seen frigid temps, thaws, ice, snow, rain, salt dust in the air. All of it. None of that helps promote long air filter service intervals.

make sure your plugs are in good shape too. If you're overly rich they might need cleaning or changing.

Alright,I'll see if Autozone has the MAF cleaner and the K&N recharge kit. Yeah, the weather here is ridiculous here lately. I'll clean it all up and let ya guys know how it works. Im doing a tune up this week,my plugs are probably BLACK. My buddies told me my car looks like a diesel when i take off hard cause it blows black smoke. I just need to get this thing running right again.

It could just be that the AEM has knocked the trims off - if it hasn't run right the entire time it's been on there. Got the stocker to put on and test against?

intake wouldn't throw off trims that much to make it sputter

hmm.. take the maf out and clean it, or better yet, buy a new one.. Also, take a picture of your injectors.. If you have stock injectors, that'll be bad news for you

When water hits ur maf it can sputter. Snowy/rainy soaked conditions have made this hapoen to my car before.

Either way not a bad time to change ur maf sensor.
